I built some decks to teach newbies into EDH. They are all proactive and able to establish a board, with clean ways to close out a game and enough answers to keep opponents at bay.

Going hard on Equipments so we aren't in huge card disavantage when removal hits. Also, no double pips ({R}{R} or {W}{W}) outside of Divine Reckoning because our manabase is mostly basics with little fixing (taplands hurt a lot here). Also also, not favoring first strike, since so many cards grant double strike already (vigilance, trample, flying and haste are more valuable here).

The way I play Wyleth is running a lot of 2-cmc untapped rocks tied to strong protection and evasion auras/equipments, so Wyleth doesn't die and keep drawing gas for the rest of the game. I usually have more mana than the green decks and more cards than the blue decks in my pod. For reference, here's a more refined version of Wyleth: Wyleth, Soul of Card Draw.
