You only have 77 cards there mate... Also, you seem to be missing a description. What does the deck do? How does it do that? Does it have an alternate wincon? that sort of thing.

Trtl I am working on the deck right now, so I'm going to add in a more detailed description in a bit, just wanted some input on any cards that I might've missed out on.

Ah, gotcha. I'm still a competitive fledgling (The best I can afford is a somewhat competitive Ghave deck) so please correct me if i'm wrong. but would Awakening Zone, From Beyond, Mortician Beetle or Fecundity be any good here?

Triton says... #4

Trtl those cards are pretty good in this Mazirek list (they're amazing in your usual list for sure). I'll add some of them in, like the Awakening Zone-like cards and maybe Fecundity if it helps me the most in this deck. Thanks for the suggestions!

I think this would be an infinite combo; Ashnod's Altar + Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest + Animation Module = infinite servos. you can do something with that by adding Concordant Crossroads and swing for infinity. If I am some how being a help more than a hindrance here it's because Golgari is the guild I have the most experience with.

And on a final note, depending on how often you get threshold, Cabal Pit.

Ashnod's Altar + Animation Module + Mazirek is an infinite combo, the problem with it in the deck is that it cannot be fetched with the main card of the deck Tooth and Nail. I do have Altar in here as a sac outlet for comboing off, but usually I will be fetching Viscera Seer with TaN. Thanks for the suggestion, however! If you want to see the Mazirek deck that I own, the link is below:

Yahenni, Undying Partisan is a free sac outlet with built-in protection. Birthing Pod might be too clunky, but it's still pretty good. Sylvan Safekeeper protects the combo in a synergistic way, although you may not want it depending on how much ramp you have. Also, Command Tower and Command Beacon seem not too bad. This is a cool list. +1.

Dredge4life idk how I forgot about Command Tower and Command Beacon lol. Yahenni actually looks pretty great in this deck, since she can be tutored. I may consider Sylvan Safekeeper, but usually I have just the amount of mana to cast and entwined Tooth and Nail, but I'll consider it on the off-chance I draw him before I can cast TaN. I don't know exactly how well Birthing Pod would work, but I bet worst-case it can tutor said safekeeper. Thanks for all the great suggestions and upvote!

Consider Aerie Ouphes and Puppeteer clique. Ouphes can be used to target mazirek if there is no other flying creatures on your board to pump all your tokens, mama dorks, or other bodies infinitely without even a sac outlet.

Since this deck is meant to be competitive, it needs a plan against blue decks. Countermagic seems like a real problem if you rely so heavily on resolving Tooth and Nail, and you need ways to fight back. How about Thoughtseize, Duress, Autumn's Veil, Imp's Mischief, City of Solitude, Dosan the Falling Leaf, Mind Slash or Hall of Gemstone?
Also, Islands are common enough on competitive tables that Carpet of Flowers is almost always live. The card can easily be better than Sol Ring and i really think you should play it. It's also great against many stax pieces like Winter Orb, Stasis or Stony Silence.

Emzed I like the suggestions! How many of the blue-hate cards would you advise me to add in the deck? I'll be able to select the specific ones pretty easily, so I'll just need a number. Thanks for the suggestions!

To be honest, i'm not sure. Your specific metagame is obviously an important factor in this. I haven't played your deck, so i don't know how well it comes back after losing an important thread to a counter. Also, you obviously need enough mana sources and threads, which means the room for interaction / protection is very limited. Maybe 4-5 is the a good number, but that's really just a guess. You can take a look at this list, it tries to resolve Food Chain at any cost for its combo and uses similar tools for protection (obviously you don't have access to red for Pyroblast and Red Elemental Blast).

Emzed Okay, I'll go with 5 for now depending on my meta (it's very diverse, so it's hard to pick the correct cards to counter strategies) and then change it depending on how the meta changes. Thanks for the suggestion!

Btw, there is a typo in the deck title: "Contol" could use an "r".

If you create infinite mana with woodfall primus and phyrexian altar you can end the game with a big Exsanguinate. Also Crystalline Crawler and Workhorse can make a ton of mana. Mindless Automaton can also make you draw a lot of cards.

Emzed says... #19

All of those suggestions are essentially 3-card combos (2 cards generating infinite mana means you need a third card to actually win from there, etc), but this deck already has several perfectly fine 2-card combos. So why bother with anything else? It would just bloat up the deck with cards that are useless outside of a very specific context.

@ Triton: Why Yahenni, Undying Partisan? I can't see a good reason to run it over a cheaper version (Carrion Feeder), a more versatile version (Sadistic Hypnotist) or one that you can tutor more easily (Varolz, the Scar-Striped is green which matters for several tutors). Indestructibility just doesn't seem very attractive in a format where a lot of removal gets around it easily (Swords to Plowshares, Path to Exile, Dismember, Toxic Deluge, Submerge, Duplicant, Pithing Needle).
You depend on Tooth and Nail heavily, but maybe you could include some alternatives that can do a similar job, such as Pattern of Rebirth, Defense of the Heart, Birthing Pod or Eldritch Evolution. For the latter two it's very relevant that sacrificing Mazirek to them can find either piece of Mike + Trike.

Emzed made changes as I saw fit keeping your suggestions in mind. Quick question: what is your opinion on Contamination? It's a tutorable soft lock with the Scion/Spawn producers (great standalone cards). I feel as though Bitterblossom is a bit lacking compared to the former two in this deck (great card, but not in this deck).

January 22, 2017 1:07 a.m.

Emzed says... #21

I don't have much experience with Contamination. Isn't there a high risk that you cut yourself off of green mana? You only have 8 nonland green sources. Of course you can always just decide to sacrifice it in your upkeep once you are ready to combo.
Your deck can indeed feed Contamination well if you have either of the Eldrazi enchantments, but otherwise you don't have all that many creatures that you don't care to sacrifice. Commanders like Meren of Clan Nel Toth, Nath of the Guilt Leaf, Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder, Prossh, Skyraider of Kher or Ghave, Guru of Spores are a lot better at constantly producing creatures to sacrifice.
One more aspect of Contamination to consider: You don't interact much with mana rocks such as Coalition Relic or Mox Diamond. If your opponents have those, the soft lock isn't working.
I have some more ideas for you in the ramp section: Frontier Siege (2 mana twice each turn), Rain of Filth, Cadaverous Bloom, Culling the Weak, Bubbling Muck.

Btw, the new Walking Ballista can function like a Triskelion with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed. I don't know of that changes anything, it might not even be playable since it doesn't work great with Tooth and Nail (you need a sac outlet to start the combo). Still, a card to keep in mind, especially because it can be a solid play for 2 or 4 mana to interact with cards like Aven Mindcensor, Containment Priest or Hermit Druid.

What do you think about Altar of Dementia for an additional sac outlet and redundancy? In addition to being another sac outlet, it can replace Viscera Seer in the combos mentioned in "wincons" to infinitely mill your opponents out! Other cards to consider might be Gaea's Herald and Riftsweeper. Gaea's Herald prevents your combo pieces from being countered and Riftsweeper can return a creature in exile to your hand after a Path to Exile or Merciless Eviction! Just my 2 cents, overall a great deck, so a definite +1 from me!

Riftsweeper doesn't return the card to hand. It gets shuffled into the library.

Good catch, I must have misread it then! Even so, I think it is still worth looking at because he runs so many tutors and should be able to find the returned card fairly easily!
