Man do I have a type. First, I made an Ephara, God of the Polis deck that was basically mono-board clear, card draw, and win with Approach of the Second Sun. My friends hated it so I made Extort Zur the Enchanter which heavily relied on using Zur as removal, pillow forting, and slowly winning the game with extort chip dammage, and then I built Inniaz, the Gale Force my friends hated get their stuff stolen (admittedly fair) so now it is probably just Kangee, Sky Warden. So all of my decks had a rework to make them less awful to play against. And now we are going from Ephara --> Zur --> Liesa, Shroud of Dusk.

Basically I knew I wanted to build an extort deck, and after admitting to myself I would be ok having 1 deck without blue (which took a lot of self convincing) I decided to find an orzhov commander that could add to the group slug element of extort.

I am actually really happy I found Liesa, Shroud of Dusk, because I think it is a much better fit for extort. I did consider Kambal, Consul of Allocation but I like Liesa's ability to pay life for commander's tax so I put Kambal in the 99. I also wanted to play heavier into the life gain aspect of extort, because I knew I would be losing a lot of life.

I think this goes without saying but the deck plans to win from group slug elements like the commander, extort cards, Palace Siege, Marauding Blight-Priest, Kambal, Consul of Allocation, Indulging Patrician, Cliffhaven Vampire and Drana's Emissary and typically (hopefully) you can finish the game with a big Debt to the Deathless, Exsanguinate or Gray Merchant of Asphodel.

I am running every extort card except for Treasury Thrull 6 is a little too steep for an ability I barely care about. I think at 5Vizkopa Confessor has a significantly better ability for this deck than Treasury Thrull

Attacking with creatures in this deck is interesting. I think there are only 2 scenarios you ever want to attack with any creature. Basically you want to try to maximize the lifegain from Liesa. it is really nice to have Liesa as a blocker, but if you know that no one is likely to attack you even if Liesa is tapped, that's a good time to hit someone for 5. I would typically only do this with either the assurance of no haste creatures ruining my day because I have Blind Obedience out, or if I have some removal in hand like Path to Exile or Swords to Plowshares that I can use on creatures that swing at me.

I think one of the most important parts about decks in my playgroup is a at least somewhat decent way to protect yourself from creature damage, and chump blocking can work sometimes. That is why I have Attended Healer and Griffin Aerie.

I had a lot of these cards so the deck only cost me $25 (including $5 shipping)
