When I first got into Magic, I was immediately drawn to Artifact based decks. I thought that’s what I would primarily play until Zendikar Rising was released…and I got to experience the joy of Landfall. I ended up picking up the Land’s Wrath precon to have a base for an Omnath, Locus of Creation deck, but after playing a friend of mine with the precon out of the box (just so I could see how it would play) something gravitated me towards Obuun. Attacking with a huge land with Trample was just plain old stompy fun. I’ve been upgrading the deck ever since (it’s actually my personal favorite deck now) which I finally decided to name: “Obuun’s Fuel for the Feeding End” (which is a Coheed and Cambria reference for anyone who was wondering). The game plan is simple: play lots of lands and capitalize on all the +1+1 counter synergy that seamlessly trigger when playing lands and overrun my opponents with arbitrarily large creatures. I mainly try to power up Obuun to absurd levels and then attack with a huge land with Trample. I have tons of ways to double the amount of counters on Obuun with cards like Branching Evolution, Court of Garenbrig and Bright-Palm, Soul Awakener. This deck has been extremely fun to play and can definitely put your opponents on a clock if they don’t respond in time. Well, this has been my take on Obuun and I’m curious to see how others have built this great Commander.
