Grumgully and the Inhumans

Commander / EDH RG (Gruul)

Just putting up a copy of what is my favourite EDH deck to play currently, which is the Grumgully inhumans deck.

Throne of Eldraine brought us some amazing cards for a variety of decks and formats but Grumgully I think is one of the most underrated of them for EDH as non-Human is a very broad card pool.

Now obviously people are aware of the infinite mana loop that Grumgully can create with a non-human persist creature and a sacrifice outlet like Ashnod's Altar but I have intentionally not added this in because of the usual power level of my play group. If you are more cEDH inclined then by all means go wild.

A few notes on this deck.

  1. I have only included cards that I currently own and so there is probably combo's you could think to add or upgrade to the deck and I would love to hear them.

  2. The main aim of this deck is to ramp hard, go big and smash face. As such we have a few different sources of haste. Ideally we want to get Anger in to our graveyard but in the event of us not drawing it/it being exiled then we have Crashing Drawbridge and Samut Tyrant Smasher to give haste too. Rhythm of the Wild also provides this option and stops the control players countering our creature spells.

  3. The amount of ramp we have and card draw allows us to chew through the deck and thin it out from lands so we're drawing in to our better cards more often. We are playing Retreat to Kazandu for the landfall triggers and have different ways to provide multiple triggers in a single turn.

  4. We're using some creature based artifact and enchantment hate to allow us to get these through with Rhythm of the Wild on the board. Reclamation Sage may be an ETB trigger but Steelbane Hydra is a great and repeatable source when paired with our landfall triggers. Additionally we have Return to Nature and Cindervines to assist in removal where necessary. Cindervines is better as a slow threat though, pinging our opponents for playing non-creature spells and drawing out any enchantment hate they may have (nobody likes being pinged).

  5. Our main win con is the simple "Go Big and Get Stomping" tactic with creatures like Crash of Rhino Beetles, End-Raze Forerunners, Jugan the Rising Star (very underrated creature), Oran-Rief Hydra and Woodborn Behemoth. If you have them then creatures such as Omnath Locus of Rage, Avenger of Zendikar and Craterhoof Behemoth would be fantastic additions to the deck. Finale of Devastation is a recent addition that provides us with another explosive option to stomp in out of nowhere.

If you have any thoughts or suggestions then they are most welcome. To anyone who builds this, get used to saying the phrases "Because it's non-Human" and "Landfall trigger."
