Rosethorn Acolyte

Creature — Elf Druid

: Gain one mana of any colour.

(You may cast Rosethorn Acolyte from exile if you sent it on an adventure.)

Seasonal Ritual

Sorcery — Adventure

Gain one mana of any colour.

(You may cast Seasonal Ritual for from anywhere that you have the permission to cast this, then exile it on an adventure instead of putting it into your graveyard. When you have not chosen to cast Seasonal Ritual, this card is treated only as Rosethorn Acolyte in whatever zone it is in.)

(Example scenarios for Seasonal Ritual: You may cast this off of Melek, Izzet Paragon. You may not target this with Snapcaster Mage. Thalia, Guardian of Thraben increases the cost of this. Electrodominance requires X=1. If your opponent owns this and you cast it, only you may cast Rosethorn Acolyte when it goes on an adventure. You may cast this from a cascade spell if the spell has a cost greater than Rosethorn Acolyte's cost.)

DrukenReaps on Need ideas for a flicker …

I would recommend just starting with EDHRec's Blink Theme page. I know it's maybe an obvious suggestion full of obvious cards but it'll give you a baseline to work from with few outright 'bad' options imo. https://edhrec.com/themes/blink

Adventure seemed like a neat idea but when they printed things like Rosethorn Acolyte.... I dunno, maybe there are some worthwhile? This one definitely isn't.

Emiel the Blessed would be solid, another great option would be Kodama of the East Tree.

If I may though. Since you're making a custom card here as the commander I'd recommend the commander have the ability to flicker/blink the other cards in the deck rather than necessarily being the target itself. There are 100s of cards with ETB and LTB triggers but only so many cards which blink a target or multiple targets.

So my own suggestion would be to remove Winnie the Pooh's ETB ability and put something like-

Sacrifice 2 food tokens: Exile target permanent until the end of the turn.

Or something along those lines. This is still flavorful to Winnie, he needs to eat before he adventures with a friend of course. This is just my suggestion due to a lack of blink effects compared to ETB effects. Take it or leave it as you choose.

legendofa, thanks for the suggestions! I might consider the Urborg Elf especially. I mean, I'm pretty sure I have one. I just like the looks of the Rosethorn Acolyte. As for Rashmi, I definitely need to squeeze her in!

Hey, nice version, some interesting card choices.

Sol Ring is still good here because Lathril is 4 CMC with two colorless. Rosethorn Acolyte art is neat, but consider replacing with Sol? Elves of Deep Shadow is another one drop mana Elf, but this one can make black mana to cast Lathril without needing black mana from a land. It could replace Kodama's Reach .

Quest for Renewal gives you a way to untap Lathril and Elves on each opponents turn. It can be a win condition with 10 Elves + Lathril. Quest could replace Rhys the Exiled . Because you have Overgrown Tomb and Woodland Chasm then Nature's Lore or Three Visits are an upgrade for Rampant Growth .

Llanowar Wastes is the Golgari Pain land, it could replace Foul Orchard . Twilight Mire is the Golgari Filter land, it could replace Jungle Hollow . Mire able to make with one green source is helpful with big green mana producing Elves.

Good luck with your deck.

rjife Thanks a lot for yor recommendations! I constructed the deck to mill my own library in one turn (as soon as I play Song of Creation), to avoid the discard effect of Song of Creation and getting stuck with drawing lands afterwards. Therefore I had to limit all cards which wouldn't help milling myself to a minimum. Because of this, mana ramp like Llanowar Elves or Arboreal Grazer could damage my consistency more than helping me to play Song of Creation earlier.

Because I plan to mill myself straight after playing Song of Creation, I usaly have no mana left except for the additional land drop allowed by Song of Creation, which I need to play the legendary creature (Zurgo Bellstriker). So Merfolk Secretkeeper would not help me in this deck much, because it costs mana.

Lastly Rosethorn Acolyte, the reason I chose not to play this card is a little bit more complex. Without going into depth, Rosethorn Acolyte would have pretty much the same fuctionality in this deck as Skirk Prospector. Both ramp (if i have a land to less), both draw more cards for net zero mana. Unfortunately i am not able to play both, because of potential mana issues while milling. I have chosen Skirk Prospector in this deck, because it still can help me playing Song of Creation on turn 4 with just 3 Lands and an Idyllic Tutor in hand. I know that Rosethorn Acolyte could fix potential mana issues for playing Song of Creation or Idyllic Tutor, but I rarely experienced any, while testing this deck.

Mabey trying to mill the own library in just a single turn is not the best approach, but it makes this deck fast. Mabey I'll create a more consistent and slower strategy one time, then you recommendations will be great for me, especially the adventure cards could help to start milling again after discarding the own hand.

This deck is super cool! I would consider running some ramp, such as Llanowar Elves, and Arboreal Grazer. I would also consider running Merfolk Secretkeeper because you end up milling/drawing 8 cards for 2 mana. Rosethorn Acolyte can also help you draw more cards and fix potential mana issues, as well as helping you ramp.

CogsAndGlimmers on elf triable

I don't know if you're still checking this, as this was written 5 months ago... But hi! This deck helped give me inspiration for my own elf tribal deck, so I thought I'd come in and give a few pieces of advice in some areas. Cards like Rosethorn Acolyte, Quirion Elves, Paradise Druid, Lifespring Druid, Boreal Druid, and Beastcaller Savant probably aren't the best for this deck. They can commonly be amazing in multicolored decks, as this saves you in the case of not drawing a certain land early on... But this is a mono-colored deck, leading most of these cards, which are balanced due to being able to produce any color, worse than most of your normal, green mana producing options. I would also recommend a cards such as Coat of Arms, Door of Destinies, Herald's Horn, and Vanquisher's Banner. These make a tribal deck go from "Hey, look at all those small creatures, that's worrying" to "Hey, look at that hoard of 10/10 creatures, time to concede". Dark Depths is also a lot of fun, as getting large amounts of mana is fairly simple, but I love your use of Helix Pinnacle (And am probably going to put that in my own deck). Hopefully this advice helps if you're still interested in the deck, because it has so many parts to it that look amazing, and it would be cool to see it worked on a bit more! Good luck in all your future deck building.

I'm sorry for the confusion, DragonSliver9001, allow me to elaborate:

If Rosethorn Acolyte is simultaneously a creature and a sorcery whilst on the stack, as I took from Neotrup's answer, then it could be countered by the Wail. But that's a question, not sure if it is true nor if it makes any sense.

No. In all zones other than the stack (when cast as Rosethorn Acolyte), Rosethorn Acolyte is only has the type creature, not sorcery, so it cannot be found by Mystical Tutor.
