Azor’s Control Courtroom

Commander / EDH WU (Azorius)

SinWise

An average to somewhat above average power deck, focusing on one of my favorite pre-Mending Planeswalkers, Azor. Stax, flickers, and control, letting you play the ‘Judge’ of the table to try to force more balanced boardstates, fittingly enough for the master of hieromancy.

Flickering Azor himself is highly recommended, as repeatedly shutting down Instants and Sorceries can be quite powerful. Elesh Norn and Linvala can keep people from getting sneaky, but any player worth their salt is going to gun for them as soon as they’re able because of the table-wide threat they can present, so be ready to hold on to any counterspells in case one of your big players is in danger.

The largest downside of the deck is that it’s typically a bit slow to start up, especially considering Azor’s CMC. Rule of Law, Smuggler’s Share and other pieces like them can help keep the board from getting too crazy before you’re ready for it to (are are some prime targets for the tutors in the deck,) but like all things in a Commander four-pod, nothing is guaranteed.

Still, it’s been a hell of a lot of fun to take to the table, and Azor has gotten to pop off something fierce quite consistently, locking down the board while steadily gaining more life and cards with his activated ability. Maybe give it a try if you’re looking for something new!

This is not meant to be tournament-viable or anything of the sort, it’s just one of the cooler house decks I’ve come up with for local play and my girlfriend recommended I share it.

Oh! Just for fun, I also like to use a foil Sphinx’s Decree to indicate when Azor’s ETB is active. Adds a nice little bit of flavor to everything.
