Diplomatic Immunity!

Introduction (STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION)

Brand new Mangara, the Diplomat EDH deck Heavily inspired by my recent Aikido deck Elsha, Retaliate! Control, token making, etc!

This deck is really a challenge to myself. I've been looking into mono white a lot recently, what with Reddit's constant discussions about new cards and how they affect Mono-whites power level, as well as a recent budget card:Daxos blessed by sun experiment of mine.

I love defensive style decks, and trying to build decks that focus on the social side of EDH rather than comboing off. My playgroup sits at around 7-8, with no decks straying into 9 at all really.

I don't think this deck will win too many games, but it'll be involved and influence a lot of games. Interaction is key!

Lands - Lands, you know

Ramp - early game ramp that will help us get the game plan going. as much land based stuff as white can, with some needed 2 mana rocks to get mangara out.

Protection - This includes primarily protection for our permanents. White is great at protection from as well as indestructible, so trying to get as many instant speed effects is paramount.

Fog - This section is for damage fogging, and could easily come under Protection. Includes some of my favourite cards, such as Comeuppance and Mandate of Peace .

Flash - Just for Scout's Warning . Think this card works great, especially with all the instant speed token making, can get a nice endstep elesh norn down to benefit from on your turn.

Tokens - The flexible side of the deck, and one of it's main focus. Powerful effects such as Elspeth, Sun's Champion help us throw up blockers should we need them, whilst instant speed token makers such as Luminarch Ascension and Call the Coppercoats give us the flexibility of surprise blockers or being able to attack instantly.

Draw/Tutor - Mangara's Tome just for flavour cos why not! Skullclamp works well here, as well as dawn of hope to make the most of the small amounts of lifegain we dabble in.

Boardwipe - Gotta make the most of some of the more powerful white cards. Phyrexian Rebirth and Fumigate give us a little benefit, and the rest are just super powerful effects.

Recursion - with all those boardwipes, we need some recursion and reanimation to get some of our beaters and token producers. Brought Back seems insane, whilst Seance is a new one im looking to try out. Emeria Shepherd cos why not.

Removal - Plenty of great spot removal, help stop pesky vultron decks, and help to control combat.

Lifegain - A few incremental soul sisters here, as well as Sunscorch Regent to get some extra lifegain and threaten a big flying beater.

Wincon - Approach of the Second Sun seems fun in this deck, and possibly could be viable. Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite is a great card, and one that could just win the game out of nowhere.

Haven't tested yet, so all theoretical.

Strengths - Instant speed effects in white allow you to hold up interaction, and white is one of the best colours for removal. Adding the instant speed token makers to sink your mana into really helps you stay flexible and control combat. Does mean you have to be awake on other people's turns though!

Weaknesses - Mono white.

I'm not sure whether the card draw without the commander is enough/stable enough, which of course we'll see. Holding up mana can draw attention, which depending on the opponent is great for mangara or awful.

Keeping a hand with enough ramp and early game effects seems necessary. Perhaps I'll change some of the ramp to affect the board earlier, but you kind of want to be sticking around rather than building up a head of steam early, as you don't have the inherent power to go over the top of 3 players at once.

Getting mangara out turn 3 feels perfect, as turn 3/4 feels like the time when multiple spells a turn may begin, and will get you refilling your hand.

Then just controlling the game and keeping opponents at bay, whilst setting up and protecting your own board before killing everyone! Easy as that aha.

Still thinking!
