Obeka, Splitter of Seconds is nutty. I've had tremendous fun with this, and being a math guy I really enjoyed breaking down the dumb things you can do with many upkeeps per turn. The goal of the deck is to protect and buff Obeka, and swing. That's it.

When you swing in with Obeka, you're trying to do one of two things, swing for value or swing for the kill. I'll go over most of both here.

I hope you like math...

This whole list will be the math required for the number of upkeeps gained from Obeka to kill all opponents with each card or card combo. Remember that some cards are "lose life" and others are "deal damage". Your opponents may have ways to stop damage so plan accordingly.

For life loss calculations I'll go to 60 life because my friends like lifegain.

Court of Cunning is simple:

10 cards milled per upkeep. depends on the point of the game. max 10 upkeep triggers. more likely to be 8-9.

Assuming Obeka is the only creature you have on the field:

Play Court of Embereth, gain monarch.

Swing with Obeka:

  • 1 upkeep = 2 life
  • 2 upkeep = 5 life
  • 3 upkeep = 9 life
  • 4 upkeep = 14 life
  • 5 upkeep = 20 life
  • 6 upkeep = 27 life
  • 7 upkeep = 35 life
  • 8 upkeep = 44 life
  • 9 upkeep = 54 life
  • 10 upkeep = 65 life

With Obeka out and Creeping Bloodsucker / Quakebringer / both out, respectively:

  • 1 upkeep = 4 life / 5 life / 7 life
  • 2 upkeep = 9 life / 11 life / 15 life
  • 3 upkeep = 15 life / 18 life / 24 life
  • 4 upkeep = 22 life / 26 life / 34 life
  • 5 upkeep = 30 life / 35 life / 45 life
  • 6 upkeep = 39 life / 45 life / 57 life
  • 7 upkeep = 49 life / 56 life / 70 life
  • 8 upkeep = 60 life / 68 life / 84 life

Assuming your opponents have 6-7 cards in hand, and would rather discard than lose life:

Play Court of Ambition, gain monarch.

Swing with Obeka:

first 3 upkeeps are all discard, 2 per upkeep

  • 4 upkeep = 6 life
  • 5 upkeep = 12 life
  • 6 upkeep = 18 life
  • 7 upkeep = 24 life
  • 8 upkeep = 30 life
  • 9 upkeep = 36 life
  • 10 upkeep = 42 life
  • 11 upkeep = 48 life
  • 12 upkeep = 54 life
  • 13 upkeep = 60 life

With Creeping Bloodsucker / Quakebringer / both out, respectively:

  • 1 upkeep = 1 life / 2 life / 3 life
  • 2 upkeep = 2 life / 4 life / 6 life
  • 3 upkeep = 3 life / 6 life / 9 life
  • 4 upkeep = 10 life / 14 life / 18 life
  • 5 upkeep = 17 life / 22 life / 27 life
  • 6 upkeep = 24 life / 30 life / 36 life
  • 7 upkeep = 33 life / 38 life / 45 life
  • 8 upkeep = 40 life / 46 life / 54 life
  • 9 upkeep = 47 life / 54 life / 63 life
  • 10 upkeep = 54 life / 62 life / 72 life
  • 11 upkeep = 61 life / 70 life / 81 life

These cards don't win on their own of course. primary targets are Creeping Bloodsucker and Quakebringer.

Enchant to copy either with Endless Evil or copy with Extravagant Replication, then swing in with Obeka:

  • 1 upkeep = 1 life / 2 life
  • 2 upkeep = 3 life / 6 life
  • 3 upkeep = 6 life / 12 life
  • 4 upkeep = 10 life / 20 life
  • 5 upkeep = 15 life / 30 life
  • 6 upkeep = 21 life / 42 life
  • 7 upkeep = 28 life / 56 life
  • 8 upkeep = 36 life / 72 life
  • 9 upkeep = 45 life / 90 life
  • 10 upkeep = 55 life / 110 life
  • 11 upkeep = 66 life / 132 life

This is not all, I'm just too tired to write out more at this time. Extravagant Replication with any of the above Courts, for example, is bonkers.

Bitterblossom, Dreadhorde Invasion, Goblin Assault, and Thopter Spy Network all will produce a body every upkeep. What do we do with these?

  • Make mana: With a sac outlet, you can make treasures with Pitiless Plunderer. Phyrexian Altar, itself a sac outlet, will produce mana as well.
  • Deal damage: Use Goblin Bombardment to deal with pesky creatures or planeswalkers, or just shoot face. Good to bring some people into range of your kill swings. As well, The Meathook Massacre will ping each opponent with each creature you lose or sacrifice.
  • Block or swing: The old fashioned way to play. Never gets old.

Remember that you can respond to each Dreadhorde Invasion trigger with a sac outlet to make use of each Amass trigger as an individual creature, and not just a big army. Though if you want a big zombie army with lifelink, by all means.

Court of Ire is great, 7 damage to any target per upkeep. Enough to deal with most threats on the board or even take a player out of the game.

Reality Strobe is a fun little add in. Time counters are removed each upkeep. Every three upkeeps is a permanent off the board. Any permanent. Debating between this and Sinister Concierge, which only targets creatures and needs some kind of sac outlet, but it takes them out for 3 turns while we can remove time counters very easily.

Phyrexian Arena, this staple is even better here. Watch that life loss though.

Twilight Prophet, not only a card in hand every upkeep, it's also life for you and life lost for each opponent. This can win games.

Exalted Flamer of Tzeentch, man this guy has been MVP in a couple games. Random instant or sorcery from your grave to your hand each upkeep. Get back your tutors, card draw, or how about your free interaction like Fierce Guardianship and Deflecting Swat?

Rousing Refrain, if an opponent has 5 cards in hand, that's 5 red mana every 3 upkeeps. With Aggravated Assault that's unlimited combat steps. Not bad.

Fountain of Renewal and Venser's Journal are both life gain, not essential but I've found myself heavily targeted so I like it. Offsets the loss as well from Bitterblossom, Phyrexian Arena, and Dreadhorde Invasion.

Palace Siege works as lifegain same as above, also functions as another Quakebringer in the above combos.

Replicating Ring might actually replicate in this deck. Still haven't seen it happen...

As Foretold quickly gets up to cast big free spells, and free instants on your oppenent's turns.

Ring of Evos Isle, Ring of Valkas, Ring of Xathrid all are buffing up Obeka every upkeep, along with their individual utility.

This deck heavily relies on it's commander, for obvious reasons. Make sure you have protection when you cast her.

It's slow. You absolutely need protection and then you need to buff Obeka to even get a payoff. Because of this I consider it casual.

I run low land counts. It's a personal preference. If you don't like it, you can take out the lifegain package or the aggravated assault package. or remove some of the token creature creation.

Any suggestions are more than welcome, obviously this is a new deck/new commander so test, test, test. Let me know if I got any of the math wrong.
