When you really want to beat people to death with fish! Mono-blue beat down with sea creatures deck. It does have some tricks but mostly the strategy is simply going sideways with the biggest threats I can keep on the table. This deck isn't really tribal and the only real theme I have is that most of the creatures in the deck have to be some form of sea creature or live on islands. So some of the creatures like the Giant Octopus, Manta Ray, and Hammerhead Shark are there more to support the theme more than to really provide any real function. And the weird expression that people make when you play Walking Sponge is fun to watch. The 'make a land into an Island' cards are there to give opponents Islands so that the fish can attack. They also double as a minor control element by shutting off utility lands or color screwing an opponent.

So here's some of the fun things this deck will do when people aren't paying attention:
With Mystic Decree on the field and activating Aboshan, Cephalid Emperor at the end of an opponent's turn will tap the field so that I can swing in for combat damage. Viscerid Deepwalker likes to pretend that it has Firebreathing. Compulsion is there for late-game card draw as you discard lands you don't need. Dragon Wings cycles early game and gives a big creature flying for free later. Kusari-Gama really makes people think hard about blocking. Mindshrieker can, rarely, be an alternate win condition. Usually it just frustrates people as it mills cards they need. An early game, even first turn, Quest for Ula's Temple can really be a threat in this deck as there are a lot of Octopus, Leviathan, Kraken, and Sea Serpents in this deck.

I have a great deal of fun playing this deck. Even when it doesn't win, it is fun to play and fun to watch people try to figure out what's going on. New opponents see all of the islands and keep expecting me to start some control or combo strategy and I keep dropping big threats and going sideways. If you want to give this deck a try, just pretend that you're playing a big green deck and you'll have the right idea.
