Andramalech on Balaam__

Balaam__ after much deliberation, I think I've found some cards I would want to "collaborate" in the way you described:

  1. Ghost Ship
  2. Brimstone Dragon
  3. Drudge Spell
  4. Didgeridoo
  5. Mystic Decree
  6. Soraya the Falconer
  7. Willow Priestess
  8. Altar of Bone
  9. Chaos Moon
  10. Curse of Marit Lage
  11. Elemental Augury
  12. Forgotten Lore
  13. Game of Chaos
  14. Illusionary Terrain
  15. Kjeldoran Escort

It was so hard to wittle my list down to only 15 choices but I wanted to pick stuff from a large timespan; I know how you favor older, more flavorful cards!

Throughout the list you'll see things from throughout Homelands, Ice Age, and the like.

Admittedly some were not as strong picks as others in terms of building, but each one I chose for a bit of flavor, and a bit of "hey this card never gets love".

I hope these seem like appealing choices because I think each has a little "fringe-casual-upset-win-at-the-kitchen-table" kinda vibe.

I appreciate the opportunity again and can't wait to hear back from you!

How bout Mystic Decree to pair with your Island Sanctuary? There’s also a blue creature that does the same ring as decree, can’t think of the name of it though.

Tylord2894 on Do Luminous Broodmoth and Mystic …

There isn't a clear cut yes/no answer for your question, so I'll talk through an example that will cover most of the cases that could arise.

Let's say you have a Luminous Broodmoth out when your Hill Giant dies. It will come back with a Flying counter. Now, you play Mystic Decree then Wrath of God. The Moth will trigger both for itself and the reanimated Giant because they lost flying due to the Decree. Both will come back with flying counters. Now, the reanimated creatures will still have flying. When determining the characteristics of a permanent, the game uses a system of layers. Both of these effects are applied in Layer 6. Most of the time, we will use "timestamp" (chronological) order to determine how these effects will interact. That is what we will be doing here.

When the original reanimated Giant with a Flying counter was out with the Decree, it didn't have flying. Let's walk through what goes on in Layer 6 for the Giant. The card didn't have any effects to start and then got Flying from its counter. Then the Decree takes Flying away. That's the last of the effects, so the Giant doesn't have Flying. This is similar to what happens to the Moth.

Now, after both creatures get reanimated, what happens in Layer 6? Let's take the Moth as our example this time. The Moth starts out with the abilities printed on its card (so it has Flying). Since Decree was out before the Moth got a counter, the effect from Decree will apply next. The Moth then loses Flying and then gets Flying again from its counter. In the end, the Moth and Giant both have Flying. So, the Moth won't trigger when either creature dies.

There are a couple of things that I want to point out that don't directly pertain to the question at hand. Effects like Mystic Decree are very different from something like Archetype of Imagination's "can't" ability. Second, if you're somewhat familiar with layers, you might think that this is a dependency question. It is not, though. The Decree effect is applied to all creatures, not just the ones with Flying. It would have to say something like "All creatures with Flying lose Flying" in order for this to form a dependency. In that case, the answer to your question would be very different.

To recap, any creatures with flying due to an effect will lose Flying once Decree hits the table. Anything that gains Flying through an effect after Decree is out will have Flying.

Hope this helps!!

Thank you so, so,so much appreciated! As for Mystic Decree , I'm currently pairing it with Magus of the Moat which has the same effect as Moat and Stormtide Leviathan , but I'll consider running the Leviathan too.

As for Shalai, Voice of Plenty you're right! Thank you very much for pointing it out!

My gameplan is to basically ramp with mana, mana rocks and mana dorks ( minimum required for Planar Bridge's ability) in order to tutor or to cast Planar Bridge , combo it with Paradox Engine to go infinite and then proceed to cast Omen Machine and/or Knowledge Pool in order to lock my opponent out of the game thanks to Lavinia, Azorius Renegade and follow with Avacyn, Angel of Hope , Platinum Angel , and (I wanted to get some protection for myself and for my permanents, so I originally chose her, too) Shalai, Voice of Plenty and then close the game with Azor's Elocutors when opponents are locked out and I'm safe for the most part.

Since Shalai, Voice of Plenty is not available, I'm looking for another way to make myself and my permanents hexproof, aside from Padeem, Consul of Innovation , or maybe different cards or strategies.

I thought about Witchbane Orb and/or Spiritual Asylum , but Asylum seems more like an hindrance?

If someone has ideas for an alternative wincon, I'm all ears!

If you're going to run Planar Bridge then you should have something worth spending on. Avacyn, Angel of Hope is one but for it to be worth it you probably want more than one.

If you're going to play Mystic Decree you should pair it with Moat or Stormtide Leviathan , otherwise I'm not sure it's doing enough for you, plus it's nerfing your own flyers. Actually, speaking of flyers, one of yours is not legal in an Azorius deck. Shalai, Voice of Plenty is a great card, but it's legally a white & green card due to its activated ability.

Mystic Decree works very well with your island sanctuary. Another possible win con for this deck you might wanna consider is Azor's Elocutors.

if you run Island Sanctuary, consider Mystic Decree with it to completely negate attacks. Worth it if your opponent is already running flyers, plus it also helps out Teferi's Moat, another decent pillow fort card.

lastly, if you run Collective Restraint, consider adding 1 Wastes. it only taps for colorless, but adding another basic land type never hurts!
