Bar the glaringly obvious one about the palladium-myr-galvanizer combo has anyone else got any ideas on decent infinite mana combos? maybe similar to the Freed from the RealMTG Card: Freed from the Real, Sachi, Daughter of SeshiroMTG Card: Sachi, Daughter of Seshiro and Orochi LeafcallerMTG Card: Orochi Leafcaller one. ive seen a Necrotic OozeMTG Card: Necrotic Ooze, PentavusMTG Card: Pentavus, Palladium MyrMTG Card: Palladium Myr and Grimgrin, Corpse-BornMTG Card: Grimgrin, Corpse-Born version, but it's long-winded. im specifically looking for one to fit into a U/G deck which doesnt take up many slots :P

PalinchronMTG Card: Palinchron is used a lot when paired with something that lets you play it for cheaper/free.

Rings of BrighthearthMTG Card: Rings of Brighthearth + Basalt MonolithMTG Card: Basalt Monolith, but good luck getting your hands on those cards.

Phyrexian AltarMTG Card: Phyrexian Altar with creatures you can sac over and over. This isn't UG, but Mikaeus, the UnhallowedMTG Card: Mikaeus, the Unhallowed plus something like WorkhorseMTG Card: Workhorse works well.

Graft, chandelabra of tawnos is a mono artifact, which means you can only use it's ability once a turn, read the oracle text for it:http://gatherer.wizards.com/pages/card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=999

February 29, 2012 5:26 p.m.

Glen654 says... #5

And the pili-pala one would just tap and untap a lot, you wouldn't get any profit from it.

Well, I just learned something. Thanks Glen654!

February 29, 2012 5:31 p.m.

graft says... #7

@Glen654: the Pili-PalaMTG Card: Pili-Pala combo relies on either Training GroundsMTG Card: Training Grounds or HeartstoneMTG Card: Heartstone to lower the untap cost to 1. Tap for 1, pay 1 to untap and get 1 (1 floating). Tap for 1, pay 1 to untap (2 floating), etc.

... :( I forgot to mention the standard part... i only mentioned the Orochi LeafcallerMTG Card: Orochi Leafcaller one because it was standard for it's time :P and yes it will piss people off, so long as there are sore losers and bad winners things like this will piss people off.

Well, if you promise not to be a dick about it, Myr RetrieverMTG Card: Myr Retriever x2 with an Ashnod's AltarMTG Card: Ashnod's Altar. Combine with such goodies as Disciple of the VaultMTG Card: Disciple of the Vault.

MetalworkerMTG Card: Metalworker + Staff of DominationMTG Card: Staff of Domination.

Panoptic MirrorMTG Card: Panoptic Mirror + any take an extra turn spell.

Crucible of WorldsMTG Card: Crucible of Worlds + FastbondMTG Card: Fastbond + Zuran OrbMTG Card: Zuran Orb.

Kiki-Jiki, Mirror BreakerMTG Card: Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Deceiver ExarchMTG Card: Deceiver Exarch/PestermiteMTG Card: Pestermite.

Niv-Mizzet, the FiremindMTG Card: Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind + CuriosityMTG Card: Curiosity.

I really do NOT recommend using them on people though, unless you want other people to run combos themselves or stop playing with you.

@Glen654: Where on the oracle ruling for Candelabra of TawnosMTG Card: Candelabra of Tawnos does it say that? I'm pretty sure "mono artifact" is an obsolete designation that never really meant anything much in the first place. If the rules text doesn't say anything about the ability only being usable once per turn, I don't see how it could be the case that it could only be used once per turn.

February 29, 2012 8:23 p.m.

Lhurgyof says... #13

The part where you have to tap it.

February 29, 2012 8:24 p.m.

keshav says... #14

Oh shit, my bad, didn't notice that. So does that mean "mono artifact" meant that you had to tap it to use its ability?

February 29, 2012 8:28 p.m.

rckclimber777 says... #15

You can always check gatherer for updated rules text. In the case of Candelabra you do have to tap it.

February 29, 2012 10:09 p.m.

hunter9000 says... #16

From the comprehensive rules:

Mono Artifact (Obsolete)

An obsolete term that appeared on the type line of artifacts with activated abilities that caused the artifact to become tapped as a cost. Cards printed with this text have received errata in the Oracle card reference to simply say Artifact, and those abilities now include the tap symbol in their costs

Heres one I just invented.

Have out Dissipation FieldMTG Card: Dissipation Field + Heavy ArbalestMTG Card: Heavy Arbalest or Wolfhunter's QuiverMTG Card: Wolfhunter's Quiver or Livewire LashMTG Card: Livewire Lash + Angel's FeatherMTG Card: Angel's Feather or True ConvictionMTG Card: True Conviction or Phyrexian UnlifeMTG Card: Phyrexian Unlife or Vault of the ArchangelMTG Card: Vault of the Archangel + enough creatures to make about 10 mana (like 3x Elvish ArchdruidMTG Card: Elvish Archdruid & a Birds of ParadiseMTG Card: Birds of Paradise) + either something to give a creature haste (like Swiftfoot BootsMTG Card: Swiftfoot Boots) or if your using Livewire LashMTG Card: Livewire Lash, something to target a creature (like Abuna AcolyteMTG Card: Abuna Acolyte or Alabaster MageMTG Card: Alabaster Mage etc etc). Then cast Village Bell-RingerMTG Card: Village Bell-Ringer, equip it, deal damage to yourself, return it to your hand and recast ;-)

OR...

Havengul LichMTG Card: Havengul Lich + any way to kill a creature (like Disciple of GriselbrandMTG Card: Disciple of Griselbrand or Dross HopperMTG Card: Dross Hopper or MortarpodMTG Card: Mortarpod or Stitcher's ApprenticeMTG Card: Stitcher's Apprenticeetc) + mana creatures and Village Bell-RingerMTG Card: Village Bell-Ringer (as above)

On a more serious note, I havnt seen a competitive inf' mana combo in the current standard. There are however a handful of other combo decks that could be competitive.

Are you interested in non-inf' mana standard combos?

yea, im trying to make a self mill deck that uses Genesis WaveMTG Card: Genesis Wave as the main mill card so that when it hits the board the chances of my Laboratory ManiacMTG Card: Laboratory Maniac coming in are increased as i draw past the last card of my deck. of course i'll also be running things like Increasing ConfusionMTG Card: Increasing Confusion et al at the moment the deck just searches the library for cards again and again to no end. it winds up thinning the deck but at a very slow rate, at least it makes sure theres always mana available for certain things, the deck is deck:de-rptastic

cooknathan says... #23

Thats funny as that is the main strategy of my current standard deck (deck:birthing-of-the-genesis-elves it has performed well). If youl take my advice, you dont need infinite mana only lots of mana ;-)

You can use elf mana Elvish ArchdruidMTG Card: Elvish Archdruid, Phyrexian MetamorphMTG Card: Phyrexian Metamorph, Viridian EmissaryMTG Card: Viridian Emissary & Llanowar ElvesMTG Card: Llanowar Elves to ramp yourself faster than ANYTHING else in standard atm.

Use Birthing PodMTG Card: Birthing Pod & Green Sun's Zenith MTG Card: Green Sun's Zenith to help with consistency and Garruk, Primal HunterMTG Card: Garruk, Primal Hunter for draw.

Then Genesis WaveMTG Card: Genesis Wave for x=10ish (usually easy by turn 4-5). Youl hit more elves, Swiftfoot BootsMTG Card: Swiftfoot Boots and hopefully either Birthing PodMTG Card: Birthing Pod or Snapcaster MageMTG Card: Snapcaster Mage.

Recast the genesis wave ftw.

Heres a version of the deck that is more specialised Just crazy enough to work!.

Otherwise I feel that your best option would be going with the myr combo only still use Birthing PodMTG Card: Birthing Pod to tutor the creatures.

When I saw the title, I couldn't resist posting.. I really like artifacts, like really really really like them. Here's one I came up with the other day: Starting with one Palladium MyrMTG Card: Palladium Myr and two Myr GalvanizerMTG Card: Myr Galvanizers, pretty much any Myr with an activated ability can be activated as many times as you like.

For example, Brass SquireMTG Card: Brass Squire for moving Equipment around: Tap Brass SquireMTG Card: Brass Squire (move Equipment), tap Palladium MyrMTG Card: Palladium Myr (get 2 mana), pay 1 and tap Myr GalvanizerMTG Card: Myr Galvanizer A, tap Brass Squire (move Equipment), tap Palladium Myr (get 2, now have 3), tap Myr Galvanizer B, etc etc. Each cycle will also result in an extra colourless mana for you to use. :) Then you can also use CoretapperMTG Card: Coretapper for unlimited charge counters.

It gets even more fun when you throw Amoeboid ChangelingMTG Card: Amoeboid Changeling into the mix, then any of your creatures can become a Myr when you need them to. Could be especially nasty if you have March of the MachinesMTG Card: March of the Machines and Lux CannonMTG Card: Lux Cannon out as well... :P Hehe..

The only infinite mana combo in standard right now is perfomred using Havengul LichMTG Card: Havengul Lich, Heartless SummoningMTG Card: Heartless Summoning, and Priest of UrabraskMTG Card: Priest of Urabrask. But that's not in the colors of your genesis wave deck, so it won't help you much. Sorry.

Mycosynth LatticeMTG Card: Mycosynth Lattice + March of the MachinesMTG Card: March of the Machines + Experiment KrajMTG Card: Experiment Kraj + Any Planeswalker.

The planeswalker becomes a creature, and the Kraj can gain all of it's activated abilities. The ability to only use one power a turn is inherit to the "Planeswalker" supertype- not the powers themselves. So you can do as many of them a turn as you want.

March 1, 2012 12:34 p.m.

i would hate to say this but y not use Panoptic MirrorMTG Card: Panoptic Mirror with Genesis WaveMTG Card: Genesis Wave and just make your first mana cost the highest you can and than just do it every up keep and your deck will die very in 5-7 turns but it wont matter cause itll all be in play there would be a problem if you played another mill deck though especially if it was faster so just watch out for those but i think its possible it makes sense right?

March 1, 2012 12:40 p.m.

BuLLZ3Y3 says... #28

@Havokcreation69 That wouldn't work, because you would copy the Genesis WaveMTG Card: Genesis Wave and play it without paying its mana cost. So you wouldn't be able to put any mana into the "X" part of the spell.

-BuLLZ3Y3

March 1, 2012 12:41 p.m.

Lhurgyof has a great idea there especially with Jace BelerenMTG Card: Jace Beleren for blue mill only problem is its a big combo but very B/A

March 1, 2012 12:44 p.m.

but couldnt you add the (x) from wave to the mirror?

March 1, 2012 12:46 p.m.

mafteechr says... #31

@Havokcreation69

No. Panoptic MirrorMTG Card: Panoptic Mirror has you create a copy of the spell and play it without paying for it's mana cost. Thus, you cannot choose and pay a value for X, resulting in X=0.

March 1, 2012 1:08 p.m.

BuLLZ3Y3 says... #32

@Havokcreation69

More specifically, when you activate Panoptic MirrorMTG Card: Panoptic Mirror's ability, it requires that you pay the converted mana cost of the desired spell upon activation.

Which means that you can't put anything into Genesis WaveMTG Card: Genesis Wave's (X) cost because the spell's converted mana cost is actually 3. If you paid more for Panoptic Mirror's activation, Genesis Wave wouldn't be a legal target for the imprint.

bcurran says... #33

@LhurgoyfMTG Card: Lhurgoyf:

112.5. Some activated abilities are loyalty abilities. Loyalty abilities follow special rules: A player may activate a loyalty ability of a permanent he or she controls any time he or she has priority and the stack is empty during a main phase of his or her turn, but only if no player has previously activated a loyalty ability of that permanent that turn. See rule 606, "Loyalty Abilities."

All abilities of planeswalkers are loyalty abilities, and the restriction of "one ability per turn" is inherent to the abilities themselves, not the "Planeswalker" card type (also, Planeswalker is not a supertype).

Now here is a good combo: Mycosynth LatticeMTG Card: Mycosynth Lattice + Null RodMTG Card: Null Rod
