A Dimir-Colored () deck focused on the dastardly Golbez, Crystal Collector.

An Obsession

  • Golbez was born Theodor, an unassuming sweet child inevitably corrupted into Golbez.

  • This deck chronicles the late-stage of his character arch, where he is completely infatuated with obtaining the crystals.

(This is represented by his hording of small trinkets within this deck functionally, as artifacts.)

"Have you drowned in the battle and forgotten your will?"

Regal Arsenal

  • Theodor will hold access to mostly removal in the form of things like Pongify; instant, spot focused removal.

  • Other than the few aforementioned spells like Rapid Hybridization, etc., you see a ton of counterspell magic.

(Golbez, Crystal Collector does not have a very high casting cost at all so we can afford the later plays to be reinforcing his presence, by simply not allowing your opponents' spells to resolve.)

Dark Magic

  • The iconic winners of our concept are the listed behemoths below- I intend to use these as the targets for Golbez's last ability.

  • Phyrexian Soulgorger is the cheapest option at our disposal, very strong contender.

  • Metalwork Colossus seemed like the obvious choice but I needed Edhrec to confirm it's presence, just to be sure I wasn't overthinking the situation.

  • Triplicate Titan was my personal favorite choice for flavor of a Chimera, and executing the concept well.

Educating the Newcomers

"I praise your courage, at least."

  • Perhaps the most fundamental success of this deck is its access to two really secure types of play; stopping what someone else is doing is priority, and alternatively.. fetching what I wanna be doing is priority. I'm talking about tutors and counterspells.

"The moon foretells your downfall."

  • This deck super succeeds in combining all the best of Black and Blue to gather up your most valuable and useful pieces.

"Death... will not claim dominion over me."
