The two partners that care about artifacts complement each other beautifully. Akiri is a masterful combatant, and cheap enough to step up early and often. Silas Renn provides recurring value for the long haul.

They both like to be unblockable. Akiri is fun to equip, and Silas likes artifacts being sacrificed.

There's a subtheme of "cogs" (artifacts that work with things like Artificer's Intuition and Salvaging Station), because both commanders like their artifacts cheap to cast - Akiri so she can have lots of trinkets quickly, and Silas because he has to pay for them to get them out of the graveyard.
