Pride Month (LGBT+ Tribal)

Commander / EDH

heyyyyaaaa

Happy Pride Month! To celebrate, I, a bi dude, decided to make this, just for fun. It's not meant to be good but I think it'd be funny if it was.

The goal: fit as many cards that reference LGBT+ relationships or identities into it, while also making it somewhat playable. I have taken a couple of liberties for the sake of deckbuilding and based on things in some of my personal headcanons, but for the most part, a good chunk of the cards on this list either feature an LGBT+ character or reference one through its flavor text or art, and much of the support cards that aren't inherently LGBT associated are included as support for Legendary tribal (i.e. Jhoira, Reki, Iwamori, etc.) under the category 'Allies'.

I picked Kenrith as the commander despite the character being presumably heterosexual because the artist for the card, Kieran Yanner, used his husband as the model for it, and we stan a king.

If I have missed any characters or any cards that could potentially work in this deck, or if anything on here comes off as disrespectful, please let me know.

  • Nissa was supposed to, and did briefly have a relationship with Chandra, until they backed out of it in that crappy War of the Spark book. Wizards and Greg Wiseman can pry Gruulfriends from my cold, dead hands.

  • Oviya Pashiri mentions having a late wife in the story for Kaladesh.

  • Saheeli and Huatli are in a relationship.

  • Errant gets married to a woman in the New Capenna storyline.

  • Chandra is the poster child for this category.

On a related note, we need more bi rep. Chandra is cool, but I feel left out

  • Kynaios and Tiro were lovers who founded the city of Meletis together.

  • Ral and Tomik are boyfriends.

  • While Oko's sexuality isn't confirmed, can you really see him as being anything other than gay? It's mostly a headcanon, but I do believe it has a valid basis.

  • Alesha is a trans woman.

  • Alharu, Hallar, Niko, Rocco and Tivit are nonbinary.

  • Ashiok is debatably nonbinary? - I'm not entirely sure where they fall due to discrepancies in how they've been described in the story and the ambiguity surrounding their pronouns, but in any case, Ashiok is here.

  • The entire race of aetherborn is genderless, and while some do take up gendered pronouns, Gonti and Yahenni go by 'they' and 'them'.

  • Xantcha, while likely not intentionally, has been interpreted as intersex and/or trans due to her status as a Phyrexian sleeper agent with no biological sex and because of her desire to present as female and become her own person in defiance of Yawgmoth.
