This deck is a Five-Color () build, led by Tiamat. The intention is for this deck to be more thematically inclined alongside dragons released from Tarkir: Dragonstorm.

A sign of Wings to Come

This deck exists intentionally to take advantage of Omen spells and five color balancing techniques, with Call the Spirit Dragons being an auto-included win condition. Tiamat supports the capability of this deck, and I'm very excited to see how the community reacts. Cheers!

My intention with this build is to keep with the original theme of dragons being super cool, and the focus on balancing this new mechanical feature from Tarkir: Dragonstorm - Omen is a cool ability that reincorporates the dragons in a way that isn't so dead on draw; the concept makes for so much easier deck-building, and constructively it's fun in my opinion!

The big shift from the previous commander, which was The Ur-Dragon, is that we're aiming to abuse the various dragons of the deck rather than focusing on any one dragon. With this in mind, that's why we're going with Tiamat instead.

Alright so first and foremost we gotta take about why we're here!

Dwaggins? Dwaggin'my bawls acwoss yo foehead

The deck is a comically powerful array of all sorts of spells from counter capability, while also representing a flavorful cast of dragons from Tarkir: Dragonstorm as the main cast with support from creatures that come from Commander: Battle for Baldur's Gate.

  • the core functionality of the deck has to rely on an incredibly tight hand arrangement, and making use of the tools the deck naturally has access to.

  • I do believe in terms of turn 1 plays, I kept the most crucial cards up front- the tutors. All of the core tutors for minus Gamble. These allow you to retrieve one of the two hierarchs, for the ramp facility.

  • Turn two has a lot more scaling capability, with all of the monuments for the corresponding clans in attendance. Temur Monument for example gives me a lot of utility with access to my draw, control, impulse, and ramp tactics. (i.e. Arcane Denial, Stormshriek Feral, Sylvan Library, Ripples of Undeath, etc.)

  • the two costs are not to be underrated because I run a tight ship. I made room for exactly 1 cost spell; Mox Jasper because I mean.. how could we not. This deck is supposed to use Tiamat, after all.

  • I really went super hard in the mf paint with the thematic alignment, as each Dragon Orb is in attendance. By this I mean the newly acquainted Dragonstorm Globe also counts, as it is Orb. Rouuuuuuund.

Did I mention that Dragonstorm Forecaster also scales brilliantly for my deck..? Well, it does.

  • After we aquire the skills with three available Mana, we turn our focus to more steep investments. This is the turn I actually expect a Dragon to debut, if only a meager one. Omens prior to now, sure, maybe a Sagu Wildling had them sweat the inevitable Dragon Onslaught..

  • ..but here is where something like an Encroaching Dragonstorm could make your opposition sweat. It puts you within immediate, imminent kill range. We're using Tiamat, and getting to fetch dragons, all of which are easily pulling with our land base.

  • as we round up to turn , if we could find the means to pull up Dracogenesis- it's a wrap.

  • using the Genesis, we cast Tia Tamara- and fetch whoever it doesn't matter. Be cute. Make sure you cast off Call the Spirit Dragons and ignore all the belly-aching and groans of "thiS was So TeLeGrApHeD..!"

  • stare down your opposition as the realization sets in. Remove the enchantment.. which one? Right. And then deal with the boardstate.

  • checkmate.
