SUMMARY:

This is a moderately budget Gargos commander deck that aims to control the board while beating down with commander damage and generating a ton of card advantage. Use auras and targeted spells to help Gargos chomp down on your opponents' creatures while cards like Season of Growth and Guardian Project turn most of your spells into cantrips to keep the value train rolling.

The deck is primarily designed for casual metas that have worked their way up to about the level of heavily modified preconstructed decks. It was built with a number of limitations in place, so the early game can be a little inconsistent, but if allowed to build up a board into the late game this deck can steamroll opponents through massive mana generation and card draw synergies.

RESTRICTIONS:

1) No Chrome Mox, Mox Diamond, Mana Crypt, Mana Vault, or Grim Monolith.

2) No Tutors.

3) No infinite combos.

PLAYING THE DECK:

Plan A for the deck is to kill opponent's creatures while knocking opponents out with a couple swings of commander damage with Gargos. Giving Gargos Trample or using cards like Bellowing Tanglewurm, Canopy Cover, and Rogue's Passage help Gargos push past any remaining blockers. If just Gargos itself isn't enough, Pathbreaker Ibex, in conjunction with the deck's other large creatures and power enhancers, should be enough to turn every creature on your board into a game ending threat. The few hydras in the deck feed off of Gargos's cost reduction effect to provide increasingly larger bodies as the game progresses while also providing some disincentives to any opponent that may be thinking of wrathing the board.

A number of cards in the deck gain value in relation to the largest power among creatures you control, so investing cards into beefing up Gargos becomes a net benefit instead of potential card disadvantage if he gets killed off. Selvala, Heart of the Wilds is the deck's MVP, providing a massive benefit to having an 8 power creature in the command zone as she pumps out tons of mana. Hunter's Insight can both target Gargos, triggering its ability, and potentially draw a large number of cards thanks to Gargos's innately high power.

If allowed to build up into the late game the deck takes advantage of its mana elves, Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, and various untap effects to generate large amounts of mana. A number of cards in the deck draw you additional cards when you cast creatures or enchantments, so with enough mana and a bit of luck you can chain a bunch of spells in a single turn as though you were playing a storm deck. With the card drawing power of cards like Garruk, Primal Hunter and Return of the Wildspeaker it's not unusual for the deck to be able to draw 12 or even 20 cards in a single turn. With a Thought Vessel or Reliquary Tower on the board you may quickly find yourself playing with 30 or more cards in your hand. You can just let those blue players weep in envy. And don't be afraid of having to discard cards because Genesis and Loaming Shaman are there to get back your creatures and refill your library to keep the fun times rolling.

Don't let this list limit you though. If your meta is open to it feel free to remove the restrictions and modify it to your heart's content.
