Maybeboard

A Grixis colored () deck built around a formidable warrior- a swordsman of such talent that they were revered as the strongest of their time.

Someone who triumphs at Oldwalker levels of power.

I speak of Tetsuo Umezawa.

This deck is meant to be a voltron-style build, with Tetsuo, Imperial Champion at the helm.

Tetsuo himself

Happened to really like the original reference from Legends, where we saw Tetsuo Umezawa. The Lore surrounding him is kinda slim but we know about the descendant line of Toshiro Umezawa, and we know that Tetsuo was considered the strongest human of his time.

"The Vorthos Voltron"

Y'all may or may not know that I happen to love Samurai creatures and have built decks around them before (Bunny-Bushi) and this guy is and has always been a clear "king" of this creature type to me, and I aim to build a deck exemplifying that.

There are a couple different types of spells I'm insisting on using to help secure some good swings out of Tetsuo.

Unblockable

My intention is to have Tetsuo get through unopposed with his entourage of tools by making him unblockable.

"Haste keeps pace"

Another valuable element of some of these creatures is getting them to act the turn down, and that is especially important for Tetsuo himself.

Pre-determined Fate

The hodge-podge of creatures surrounding Tetsuo are mostly spell-reducing chumps or guys who like to protect your resources:

..but there are also a number of bodies here meant to help to fetch the tool you need for Tetsuo. Such as:

  • Recently revisited this list because a lot of cool equipment style cards had been printed in the last year. (2025)

  • Things like Stolen Uniform, Blacksmith's Talent, Full Throttle, and Firion, Wild Rose Warrior were all specific draws back to the concept.

  • I've cleaned up the deck and rested on the laurels that it is fun to play- and that's all I need from it. I hope you all enjoy it in that same capacity, and I look forward to hearing from you. Cheers!

The Onryo

Tetsuo is a monster when we equip him with a bunch of new toys. A Stolen Uniform here and a Genji Glove there and we're stepping on the gas pedal, Full Throttle.

I digress- the deck is rebuilt and optimized (imo) to get Tetsuo present, give him some toys, and let him swing after swing after swing- focusing on Extra Combats, One-Hit K.O.s, and surprise victories from repeated combat steps.

If you're checking in on the list, just know I appreciate you and look forward to the discussions. Cheers!
