  • I've addressed Aetherflux Reservoir a few times I do not like that card. It draws too much hate and I'm not willing to put it in a deck that isn't dedicated Lifegain.

  • Crested Sunmare is a card that I've thought about, but it's more likely to go in my Teysa Karlov deck that I'm building.

  • Drana's Emissary will likely come in.

  • Revenant Patriarch is good against combat heavy decks, but I haven't really seen those lately so it will probably come out.

  • Thoughtseize is good against combo/control decks and Fated Return actually a really good recursion here.

I agree, this deck is slow to turn on. I've found the trick is to just divert attention and lay low.

In the end I do feel like this deck will end up kind of falling in the shadows once I finish my Teysa Karlov deck. I'm super excited about that one.

I'd add Aetherflux Reservoir, and bring in Crested Sunmare and Drana's Emissary from the sideboard and take out Revenant Patriarch, Thoughtseize, and Fated Return. They all seem kind of low impact.

Triton,

First off, nice to see you again. Second, I figured I would have to address all these issues again. I know that the CMC is heavy, it was before I had to rebuild the deck. I totally forgot about Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth so that will be something to go in. If somebody is giving me trouble then Vizkopa Confessor and Sin Collector can take care of some of their key cards (looking at you combo and control players). Revenant Patriarch may seem underwhelming, but it has really helped me before. Once when I used it against an Aurelia, the Warleader voltron deck I was able to buy some time so I could ult my Liliana Vess to take them out. Agent of Masks and Yahenni, Undying Partisan seem underwhelming, but they work great with the other cards in the deck.

Thanks for the help!

One thing that really stood out to me was that the average CMC is ~4, and there are only 4 ramp cards. That's higher than my Omnath, Locus of Rage deck and it has plenty of high-CMC bombs!

There aren't too many options for ramp in BW, but you'll find plenty of ramp in black. Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and Cabal Coffers go together amazingly. Basalt Monolith is a nice, quick 3 mana. Orzhov Cluestone, Commander's Sphere, Mind Stone and Hedron Archive all provide ramp early game, and can be cracked for draws late game.

As for cuts, I'd recommend Vizkopa Confessor and Sin Collector since single player discard is low-impact in multiplayer games. Agent of Masks, Yahenni, and Revenant Patriarch are either mediocre or don't really follow the deck's game plan.

Hope this helps!

Byuante,

While they would be pretty decent in the deck it's just not something I really want to do. I had Grave Betrayal in here and was thnking about Dictate of Erebos at one point, but decided to cut in favor of Grave Betrayal. I'll think about your suggestion though!

MagmaArmor0,

I agree! Teysa decks are strange, especially the ones where the other Teysa is at the helm. I know that the deck is a little cmc heavy, but I've had games where I couldn't play something until like turn 6. However, with so much mana open people weren't really attacking me for fear of removal.

As for your suggestions those cards have been working for me fine. For example: Revenant Patriarch did awesome against an Aurelia voltron deck, and Sin Collector and Vizkopa Confessor can be really detrimental to a control player (or anyone who I feel is getting too powerful).

Thanks for the suggestions!

Hooray for a Teysa deck that actually feels Orzhov-y! Too many Teysa (especially the other Teysa) end up feeling like some strange Izzet contraption. This deck feels like an Orzhov deck should, and I like that about it.

However, my biggest complaint against the deck is how mana-hungry it is. With an average CMC of over 4 and a commander that costs a whopping 7, I'd really consider running more ramp/lands. Beckon Apparition, for example, can be cut for something like Vessel of Endless Rest, which will still annoy your reanimator opponents, while generating mana for you to use.

Revenant Patriarch should probably be a Kami of False Hope, which is cheaper and easier to recur, since it puts itself into the graveyard for you.

Souls of the Faultless looks like it would be good, but seems like it will get ignored without flying or reach.

Personally, the fact that Sin Collector and Vizkopa Confessor only target one opponent makes me usually want to cut them, because in a typical 4 player game, your average opponent has lost 1/3 of a card, and you've used 1. But if your playgroup is typically on the smaller side, or you know you have problems with a specific combo deck, then they can be used, but Sadistic Sacrament is probably better at that effect.

Lastly, I'll give a shout-out to one of my favorite cards, Martyr's Bond. It's Grave Pact, but for nonland permanents!

Personally, one of the first things I'd suggest doing is to take out the Revenant Patriarch and Corpulent Corpses. If the goal of the deck is to end the game early, then you should probably be taking out the cards that take a while to get out. Some good cheap cards you can get would be Bone Splinters, Plague Belcher, Diregraf Colossus, Lord of the Accursed, Carrion Feeder, Nantuko Husk, Voracious Null, and Wayward Servant. Some good expensive-ish cards you could get would be Geralf's Messenger, Gravecrawler, Relentless Dead, Undead Warchief, Lord of the Undead, Death Baron, and Endless Ranks of the Dead.
