Originally, I was planning on running Homura, Human Ascendant as my commander, since he is so on theme; I even toyed with the idea of Squee, Goblin Nabob, but unfortunately Squee doesn't offer anything to the deck. That is why I turned to Purphy. It would have been nice to pump my phoenix's up and give them fire breathing, but this god is cheaper to cast and hits plenty with all the recursions.
