No. Something only counts as a creature (artifact, enchantment, planeswalker, permanent, etc) when it's on the battlefield. In other zones, it's a creature card, but not a creature. Some cards like Kuldotha Phoenix and Lochmere Serpent have abilities that activate from the graveyard, but that doesn't make those abilities into creature abilities.

Does Heartstone effect activated ability of creatures in your graveyard like Kuldotha Phoenix?

@DragonSliver9001 I think you may be confusing colors with archetypes/strategies. Skred Red isn't a Burn/RDW deck running 16-18 mountain using Lightning Bolt/Goblin Guide to get the opponents life total to 0 ASAP.

Although its a Mono-Red deck that likes Lightning Bolt; Skred is more on the Control/Prison spectrum of Magic. They have 22 or more lands as well as mana rocks/accelerators and have 5 drop finishers like Batterskull/Stormbreath Dragon + Planswalkers. To achieve this endgame strategy Skred decks focus on restricting and denying the opponent's resources or actions via removal and mana deprivation. Scrying Sheets/Artifacts used at End of the opponents turn to dig deeper into the deck for answers/finishers are certainly welcome.

@MagicMarc I do not have the intention to remove any of the artifacts at this time. T2 Mind Stone sets up a T3 Koth of the Hammer as well as help pay for other generic costs so my untapped mountains can be used to pay for other spells, and then replaces itself in the late game if needed... Relic of Progenitus is great against so many different decks having any graveyard synergies/values and at its worst replaces itself... Pyrite Spellbomb is the least exciting IMO however; the options for an additional 2 damage here and there is nice and if needed replaces itself.

As far as Metalcraft in this deck is concerned; its honestly more of a gimmick than anything.... Galvanic Blast vs Burst Lightning or Kuldotha Phoenix vs Stormbreath Dragon... there are arguments to be made either way in both cases but I personally just found the metalcraft skred sub-theme to just be my own personal touch to an otherwise known/solved/tried and true deck.

Nice brew!

Hellkite Tyrant to gain artifacts from opponents?

I see Anax, Hardened in the Forge in your sideboard, but you should find a slot for it cause it combos with Kuldotha Phoenix + Ashnod's Altar. You may already know that, but thought I'd give you that info anyway!

I think a life-oriented phoenix is the best option, Garza's Assassin is the most similar, but I think red can flavorfully spend life like that, also if a Phoenix costs life to come back, I think it makes sense that it has other life-related abilities:

Bloodflame Phoenix

Creature - Phoenix

Flying, Lifelink

, Pay half your life, rounded up: Return Bloodflame Phoenix from your graveyard to the battlefield. Activate this ability only during your upkeep.

3/3

I'd like to see another Phoenix, but neither a phoenix lord or a repeated method of return.

I play a sub-metalcraft theme with Kuldotha Phoenix that plays really nicely with Relic of Progenitus , Mind Stone and Pyrite Spellbomb and Mishra's Bauble ... the extra "draw" in red is really nice and the recurring 4 damage in the air is pretty fun/unique to put pressure on but Glorybringer / Stormbreath Dragon are also really good.

Something that I am trying out is main boarding around 10 artifacts including Pyrite Spellbomb and a playset of Kuldotha Phoenix.... I've yet to play any real games with this but playtesting seems fun.

So i have been building with a skred red shell and am wonder which would be a better beatstick... Stormbreath Dragon or Kuldotha Phoenix... I normally mainboard just 2x Dragons but am trying to work in a bit more of a board presence and am undecided if conditional recursion is more appealing than Pro-White/Path to Exile.

Deck Slug failure

(the deck slug wasnt working for me.... copied deck and am having coding issues with the deck slug....)
