Grumgully the Generous: A strong budget EDH deck

Commander / EDH Budget Casual Goblins Infinite Combo Primer RG (Gruul)

If you aren't interested in playing on a budget, check out this decklist for a more Competitive Grumgully.

Grumgully is a deceptively powerful commander

On the surface, Grumgully provides very little being the general of a commander deck. A +1/+1 counter on all our non-humans is not the best general purpose commander Gruul has at it's disposal, but thanks to a mechanic introduced in Shadowmoor:

Persist

When both a +1/+1 and a -1/-1 counter are both placed on a creature, then no counter is placed on the creature as it returns to play. We can use this to easily generate infinite loops with various sac outlets.

Our persist creatures consist of Woodfall Primus, Lesser Masticore, Scuzzback Marauders, Thunderblust, Aerie Ouphes, and Furystoke Giant. The sac outlets for this deck are limited, but the ones included are: Altar of Dementia, Spawning Pit, Betrothed of Fire, and Thermopod. However, there are a few asterisks attatched to these combos:

Aerie Ouphes can sac itself to kill all flying creatures

Skirk Prospector can be used as a sac outlet, but only for Scuzzback Marauders.

The deck contains more sac outlets, but they require mana to activate, which stops them from being enablers in our combo, but some of them can serve as finishers

Finishers:

Once we've generated a recursion loop with our persist creature, some of the sac outlets require us to have a payoff, as opposed to just creating infinite mana or sacrificing the creature repeatedly.

--Hissing Iguanar,Outpost Siege: Do functionally the same thing: creatures dying pings our opponents out of the game. It's worth noting siege also serves a secondary function of granting "card advantage", as well as costing 4 mana, as opposed to three. Pashalik Mons technically goes here as well, but only when paired with Scuzzback.

--Barrage of Expendables: With infinite red mana through Thermopod or Skirk Prospector, we can dump it into this to deal infinite damage.

--Dark-Dweller Oracle: Not technically a finisher, but infinite mana allows us to play this find another finisher, which we can then cast to end the game

Since we're running on a budget, an all-in combo plan isn't entirely viable. The plan is to run a hybrid of a +1/+1 counter theme, and goblin tribal. Armorcraft Judge is great because he'll draw us a card for every creature we've played after Grumgully, including himself. Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin is the core focus of the goblin plan, and has a small amount of synergy with our commander, starting with an extra counter on him. A few other noteworthy inclusions are Fertilid, because we can fetch an extra basic off of him with Grumgully, and Evolution Sage increases the amount of counters on our creatures for every land that we play.

I really like Grumgully as a commander, it's a deck that lends itself to some interesting cards, and a very unique combo (Or it was, until they printed Renata, Called to the Hunt, but she's worse, so it's ok). I will be making a non-budget version of this deck very soon, and if you have any suggestions, I'm happy to hear them. Hopefully I'll update this to talk more about deck functionality, but this is the essential info as of right now.
