Metroid_Hybrid on Need help rebuilding an old …

Several years ago I put together a strictly Rakdos-themed Aggro deck built around Fists of the Demigod, Psychotic Fury, Ashenmoor Liege, and having a "transformative" sideboard. Many users on T/O at the time seemed to like it as much as I did. But unfortunately, one day I accidentally left it at an LGS shortly before it permanently closed, and was never able to get it back...

Now half a decade later, I'm looking to rebuild. However, over the past 5 years many new creatures have been printed that have rendered my old list, quite frankly, obsolete..

I'm probably going to keep all of the non-creature spells (except maybe Madcap Skills), but I'm likely to replace all of the creatures except the playsets of Rakdos Cackler & Spike Jester, and the singles of Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch and (of course) Ashenmoor Liege.

With so many new options, compounded by the fact that I haven't played any Modern in years, I find it difficult to settle on a particular direction...

Please advise...

(As far as the sideboard is concerned, I'm probably going to replace Blightning with Sovereign's Bite)

I see the way you are trying to dominate the board is through mass wipes, some general sacrifice and destroy effects, and big flying creatures who hit hard once the board is clear. It's a great strategy for something like Red/White or Red/Green. But you're playing Red/Black, which means you have ample sacrifice and graves games you can play. You just need to maybe be willing to cut a couple bigger demons for smaller creatures who act as sac fodder, and replace your targeted Instant removal with repeatible effects that have better longevity in a multiplayer game.

First, you want to benefit more from sacrificing creatures and having things die. Grave Pact and Dictate of Erebos are incredibly oppressive cards whose forced sacrifice go through hexproof, shroud, and indestructible. Zulaport Cutthroat, Pawn of Ulamog, Smothering Abomination, and Grim Haruspex are a few examples of these.

Fleshbag Marauder, Merciless Executioner can force sacrifices all around the board.

Viscera Seer is an example of a good sac engine, but there are many more. Then all you really need is either token generators to produce zombies/imps/elementals to sac, or a recursion engine that puts things from grave to your field/hand.

Some cards that can help get Rakdos out and rack up damage on your turn: Festering Evil, Fireblade Artist, Ill-Gotten Inheritance, Lim-Dul's Hex, Magmatic Force, Palace Siege, Subversion.

Kogarashi on Can i sacrafice opponents creature …

No, this will not work, for one primary reason: Wrangle is a Sorcery.

Fireblade Artist triggers at the beginning of your upkeep. You can only play sorceries during your main phase when the stack is empty.

However, if we assume you also have a Vedalken Orrery or similar effect in play and can thus cast Wrangle at instant-speed, or use instant-speed control-changing spells like Act of Aggression , then you would be able to pull this off.

What happens is that at the start of your upkeep, Fireblade Artist triggers. You don't choose if you're sacrificing a creature or not until the ability starts resolving, so you can steal your opponent's creature with a spell or ability while the Fireblade trigger is still on the stack. Then, when the Fireblade trigger resolves, you can choose to sacrifice the stolen creature.

If i play Wrangle to take control of an opponents creature can i sacrifice it with Fireblade Artist if he was already on the field ? My question here is does Fireblade Artist effect resolve first ?

Fireblade Artist seems like a good sac outlet for the deck, it lets you sac footlight fiends for relevant damage in the mid to late game. I would personally cut 2x Spark Harvest , 1x Spawn of Mayhem and 1x Shock .
