When the budget is away Nicol Bolas comes out to play! He's brought a couple of expensive friends along to sling some big game ending spells as well.

This is a classic hit a big dumb spell and close out the game deck. How do our Commanders help?

Commanders

Nicol Bolas the Ravager - THE BIG DOG. (Slaps roof of card.) This bad boy can fit some many tools in it. He makes your opponents discard, he can hit, he can flip, draws cards, kills things, steals things and can even kill players himself. Whatever you need this guy can do it.

Kess, Dissident Mage - This one is pretty obvious. What's better than casting big dumb spells? Casting them twice of course!

Tetsuo Umezawa - Wait. Your friends don't run spot removal? They're just playing Battlecrusier Magic? Hoo boy. This guy can take care of those singular threats by himself over and over, giving you all the time in the world to get your shit together.

Price

Aside from the three commanders we're looking at $39.89 on TCG as of Jul 26.

Goal

We're ramping into big spells and coping them multiple times to overwhelm the opponent.

• Rise from the Tides/Army of the Damned for the swarm.

• Repeated Breath of Malfegor for repeated table damage.

• A big ole' Epic Experiement to hit a bunch of devastating spells.

• Metallurgic Summonings. With 43 instants/sorceries we will get value out of this I'm sure.

• Blatant Thievery/Necromantic Selection for when someone has a better idea.

Comments

Doing a control deck on a budget on which we gotta spend some of that cash on color fixing means we gotta play a bit janky with our control deck but we can get there.

We have card draw! All the budget favs, Read the Bones, Night's Whisper, that Divination you found on the floor after a store's draft and more!

We can dig! Whispering Madness, Windfall, Izzet Charm and even more card draw!

We have boardwipes! Necromantic Selection, Curse of the Swine, Crux of Fate, Devastation Tide, Chain Reaction, Volcanic Vision . . . Turns out you can wipe the table clean for 50 cents!

We have counterspells! Sure, they're like Cancel, Dissolve, Dissipate and others of such quality but we got them!

Options! So many options! We have so many modal cards to deal with so many things! Exile graveyards, kill off token players in one go, more counter magic, buff all of our zombies, more copying spells! We can do so much with so little!

We got the ramp! We even had money leftover to get a Sol Ring! Let's get those big spells fast!

We have copiers! Mirari as an artifact, Swarm Intelligence as an enchantment, a handful of instants and if that's not enough we have recursion and one of our commanders does that recursion thing too!
