Rebuilded - Brago the many handed

Commander / EDH Multiplayer WU (Azorius)

kbrauner3005

This list centers heavily around Brago, King Eternal. If you manage to consistently getting Brago to trigger, things can get out of hand very quickly, but the deck lose a huge amount of value if your opponents manage to deny Brago from triggering. Because of that it is not uncommon for Brago to end up in an archenemy position.

Before talking about the cards individually I want to add a comment on planeswalkers. Because of Brago's flicker effect, you get to activate your planeswalkers twice a turn!! (once before combat and once after). I've tried playing with a lot of planeswalkers and I've tried playing with very few (only Jace at one point). Usually I don't like planeswalkers very much in multiplayer formats because people knows how much value they can generate if they get to stick, so often they get focused a lot. But because they generate so much value with Brago I ended up playing 5 planeswalkers (some times this feels like to many). If you don't like being in a dominant position in the game, you might want to cut some of the planeswalkers, the deck runs fine without them, but the value is simply amazing if you manage to have them for a couple of turns.

Now for the real cards discussion. I've narrowed this part down to categories of what the cards in the categories wants to do for the deck. There might be some overlapping because some cards to more then one thing (Planeswalkers, Swords etc.)

Protection: Teferi's Veil , Lightning Greaves, Swiftfoot Boots, Mother of Runes, Restoration Angel, Ghostway.

Protection are cards that helps us keep Brago alive. This is very crucial because the deck loses huge value if he can't get to trigger. I think the most important protection cards are Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots because they give haste which denies the opponents an entire turn to find an answer for Brago. Mother of Runes are a huge protector to because she kind of protects all our creatures at the same time. Teferi's Veil needs a little more clarification. Phasing makes Brago disappear after combat and will not come back before we start our next turn, which means the opponents answer for Brago has to be at instant speed. This is Awesome!! But be aware though, because phasing will NOT trigger any "enters the battlefield" triggers when other cards phases in. Phasing is simply a state a little bit like morph. the card does not leave or reenters battle field, it simple "disappears" and then "reappears". Restoration Angel and Ghostway works as panic buttoms. Use them in respond to some kind of removal to save your precious stuff. At the same time Restoration Angel will cause a creature to flicker every time Brago flickers her. This means that [Restoration angels] "flicker effect" will often be a copy of the best enters the battlefield effect on a creature you have in play.

Evasion: Pentarch Ward, Parallax Wave , Sword of Body and Mind, Sword of Light and Shadow, Sword of Feast and Famine, Sword of Fire and Ice, Sword of War and Peace, Umezawa's Jitte

Now hopeful we can get Brago to stick, we want to make sure that he connects with the opponents face. All the Swords are in the deck mostly to give protection. One sword is usually enough to make Brago unblockable against one of your opponents. Just attack the player with the matching color identity. Pentarch Ward Lets us choose who we want to attack (just choose that players main color for the ward). There are other cards that may work better, some might give protection from all colors, some might give protection from creature. I don't like protection from creatures because it doesn't protect Brago from spells at the same time. Protection from all colors is amazing but that card draw on Pentarch Ward is a big deal to me. Parallax Wave might just be one of my favorite cards in the deck. First of all its evasion against the player you want to attack - just remove any creature that might be in the way. after connecting with the opponents face, flicker Parallax Wave to restart it with 5 counter and you are good to go in the next turn again!! At the same time is works as instant speed protection for Brago. If an opponents tries to wipe the board, just your 5 most precious creatures and they will survive the wipe. Sure we lose Parallax Wave but no cards are more important than Brago!! If an opponent tries to destroy Parallax Wave in response you just exile your creatures with the best enters the battlefield triggers. When Parallax Wave is destroyed, you get the triggers.Umezawa's Jitte is the weekest evasion cards. I needs counters to works and it only gives -1/-1 pr. counter. but it can also set up a huge swing for lethal or protect Brago. It can also heal you a bid but this is rarely relevant.

Amplifiers: Silverblade Paladin, Strionic Resonator, Ajani, Caller of the Pride and Venser, the Sojourner

Now that Brago hopefully connects, we should get the most out of his trigger. Amplifiers are cards that enhances Brago's trigger. Strionic Resonator is the simplest one, it is simply copying the trigger. Silverblade Paladin and Ajani, Caller of the Pride gives double strike, and since Brago will trigger from dealing combat damage and not just from attacking like other commanders, double strike will also let us use his trigger twice. Venser, the Sojourner is obviosly the weekest of the amplifiers since he only let us flicker a single permanent a turn (two flickers if you can comit both the pre- and post combat activation), but because he also works as an evasion giver, he made the cut.

Now everything about Brago should be cover so let me talk about the permanents we want to target with his trigger:

Removal: Karn Liberated, Duplicant, Exclusion Ritual , Phyrexian Ingester, Reality Acid ,Luminate Primordial, Spine of Ish Sah, Venser, Shaper Servant, Act of Autority.

There are not much to say about thies cards. There all do some kind of removal. This is important for two reasons. The obvious one is almost self-explanatory. Without removal you can't really interact with your opponents and this will often cost you the game. But what removal also does for Brago is that it helps him connect. And the fact that they are reusable when Brago makes them flicker is amazing.

Card draw: Wall of Omens, Mulldrifter, Prophetic Prism, Sphinx of Uthuun, Jace, the Mind Sculptor.

Again, there not much to say about, why card draw is needed. One comment though is about Jace, the Mind Sculptor. Everyone will say that this guy is obviously strong, maybe even broken, but without fetches to shuffle your deck, or a reason to play around with the top of your deck, jace-storm doesn't do much besides jace-storming of course. What makes him so good for this deck is all the options he brings. Bouncing a permanent is a removal and Jace-storm is basically card draw. When thies abilities can be used twice a turn its pretty strong, especially because the jace isn't limited to one ability. The scry 1 ability will usually not get relevant before you are left with a single opponent. Being able to control the draws of your opponents will very often just end the game.

Token generators: Knight-Captain of Eos, Myr Battlesphere.

When I first started building this deck around Brago I played a lot of token generators. My thoughts about them was that I wanted to be able to block multiple players when they started to focus me. What I saw however was that people would wipe the board to often for the tokens to have any real impact. So I started to play more removal to simple kill the threads for they attacked and more protection for Brago because that is so damn important. Now I'm left with two token generators. Knight-Captain of Eos does exactly what I was talking about before. When people start to attack me frequently, I only need to sac a single token to stop the entire attack. There are also the option to help out another player if you happen to encounter a board where you simple can't win this game alone. Myr Battlesphere is a simple beat stick, but it is VERY good at being that, when Brago keeps flickering the Battlesphere to add more tokens that will be used as raw power the next turn.

Clones: Clver Impersonator, Phyrexian Metamorph.

With Brago, clones are almost always just the best card possible. Clver Impersonator is the best permanent on the board. Phyrexian Metamorph is the best Creature or artifact you control. And they will trigger enters the battlefield effects of the card they choose to clone. One thing to mention though is that when Brago triggers and flicker your board, the clones will not be able to be a copy of anything that flickers at the same time.

Recursion: Angel of Serenity, Academy Ruins, Rally the Ancestors , Sun Titan, Body Double, Reveillark, Karmic Guide.

Now we can't expect to just dominate the game without our opponents trying to ruin our plans. To make sure that a key component isn't lost forever, recursion is needed. There are not much to say about that. I would like to comment on Rally the Ancestors because I think it might be the best recursion creature cards in the deck. It often cost a turn, but what you want to do is to get a huge "x", return all you creature to play, then get Brago to connect. Then Brago will fickler everything and all the "ancestors" that just came back to play "forgets" they where meant to leave at end of turn and will stay for in play. Body Double, Reveillark, and Karmic Guide is an amazing combo and there are so much to say about them. If you want know about all the ways to use them together, try googling. I won't spend time talking about them here.

Ramp/Rocks: Mana Vault, Sol Ring, Azorius Signet, Solemn Simulacrum.

Any kind af ramp i always need in commander decks. Brago's mana curve is relatively low, so I choose not to play more that 4 "ramp" spells. Well only Solemn Simulacrum is a real ramp spell, and a really good one since he keeps ramping with Brago's trigger. Brago's is able to untape the rocks because the are permanents and not lands which kind of gives us a small Sword of Feast and Famin effect added to the rock.

Sweepers: Sunblast Angel, Supreme Verdict

Sweepers is almost often a must but in Brago we useually don't want to wipe the board since it often will cause us to lose a lot of value since we always have a board presence due to our low curve.

Tutors: Tezzeret the Seeker , Stoneforge Mystic, Steelshaper's Gift, Enlightened Tutor.

Tutor is also very common in commander and we usually uses our tutor for the important equipment. Every once in a while, Enlightened Tutor will find a rock - especially turn 1 tutor for Sol Ring.
