Noble Purpose Discussion

You might need more card advantage/draw. You have a good amount of search, but it is hard to rely only on Greater Good and Zendikar Resurgent for great card advantage. Probably only get to use those when you are already in a good position in a match.

Elemental Bond Beast Whisperer Lifecrafter's Bestiary Return of the Wildspeaker Even Elvish Visionary could do very well on mimic vat for temporary repeatable card draw.

If you include Archangel of Thune then think about Spike Feeder as well. Might as well go infinite.

For dech tech, I would suggest: Spore Frog Seht's Tiger Voice of Resurgence Noble Purpose Skullwinder Caustic Caterpillar Thrashing Brontodon Emergence Zone Thunderfoot Baloth Dosan the Falling Leaf

I would definitely add these cards: Phyrexian Processor , Phyrexian Rebirth , Slime Molding (better than it looks since paying 11 mana will give you a 3 mana 10/10 each turn after), Vitu-Ghazi Guildmage (populate mana-sink late game), Parallel Evolution , Illusionist's Bracers (populate twice, for the same price!), Acidic Slime (just an awesome green staple), Sakura-Tribe Elder , Phantom General , Angel of Sanctions (INFINITE REMOVAL EACH TURN!), Beast Within (staple removal in green), Budoka Gardener / Dokai, Weaver of Life (mana acc and lategame big tokens in one)

I would consider these also: Worldspine Wurm , Parallel Lives (awesome, but a bit $$$), Rootborn Defenses (stops a board-wipe and pops), Trostani's Judgment (high cmc, but good value), Overrun (probably wins you the game if you have a few creatures out), Hydra Broodmaster , Austere Command (wipes opponents' boards, but a bit $$$), Elspeth, Sun's Champion , Elspeth Tirel (both Elspeths have great board wipes for token decks), Oblivion Ring , Yavimaya Elder , Ajani Goldmane / Ajani, Caller of the Pride (both have great synergy with big lifegains), Baloth Cage Trap (P.S you can play this and populate as combat trick!), Beast Attack (the flashback makes this a good comeback-card in case of board wipe and you need to get the pop-engine going), Blade Splicer (very powerful early-mid game)

I would 100% cut these cards: Take Heart , Centaur Healer , Healer's Hawk , Parhelion Patrol , Candlelight Vigil , Conviction , Noble Purpose , Flight of Equenauts , Siege Wurm , Bounty of Might (no trample=hard to use)

I would also consider cutting these: Lone Rider  Flip, Sumala Woodshaper , Sunscorch Regent , Verdant Eidolon , Scatter the Seeds , Wake the Reflections , Ajani Unyielding

Calyptic

Cards I would recommend cutting out: Darting Merfolk, Windrider Patrol, Animation Module, Inspiring Roar, Noble Purpose, Kindred Boon, Gleam of Authority, Celestial Mantle, Brave the Sands, Leonin Sun Standard, Throne of Geth, Beacon of Immortality, Scale Blessing, Harpoon Sniper, Reef Shaman, Silvergill Douser.

All the cards I mentioned above doesn't work with the build your going for, dilutes your deck, or is too slow on the curve for it to matter.

Hope that helps!

I saw this deck on a deck ad and decided to try to help out, mainly because I also enjoy playing Merfolk decks and I have one GU merfolk deck using Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca that's pretty fun to play. If you want the link, it's Alexander's Terrible Horrible No Good Merfolk Deck. If you like Merfolk, Kumena is an excellent commander to try out. I personally would get rid of Pyramid of the Pantheon because for your deck it's too slow. Most of your drops are already pretty cheap, and having to wait three turns (at minimum) to get the card's full power doesn't sound too great.

I would also get rid of Leonin Sun Standard, while the buff is a good mana dump and synergizes with any unblockable effects you can slap onto your merfolk, since the buff doesn't count as a +1/+1 counter buff and isn't proliferate-able, I wouldn't run it.

Windrider Patrol is too expensive for your deck. The scry is nice, but if thsi is a UW Aggro deck, it's probably best to stick to smaller, more easily swarmable creatures.

Animation Module is too slow too. 3 mana for a semi-prolif on only one permanent as opposed to something that can proliferate on everything.

Brave the Sands doesn't really make too much sense to me in this deck. The vigilance effect and being able to block multiple things doesn't really help either since if your creatures are big enough and able to block you probably won't get swung at anyway. If anything, run Intruder Alarm instead (it's so much fun trust me).

Noble Purpose can also be taken out. The lifegain from unblockable creatures is nice, but at 5 mana I wouldn't run it.

In my opinion, Kopala, Warden of Waves sounds good in theory, but against a swarm strategy like this deck is, you can bet people will probably save their single target removal for either other players or just use non-target board wipes on you.

Sea Scryer is a merfolk, but in a (mana-wise) cheap deck like this I don't think he'll be too useful. If he's in your opening hand or shows up in the first 3 turns or so he can be useful, but if you don't draw him before then he's kind of a dead draw.

Heartstone doesn't synergize enough with your deck. There's not enough activated ability creatures in your deck to warrant running it in my opinion. There's probably more you can do to get rid of things, but I think those are good suggestions to start with. Try to assess your big cards and see if they're really worth their mana cost.

Why run General Tazri as your Commander? You've only got a small handful of cards that aren't mono white. Gisela, Blade of Goldnight or Aurelia, the Warleader still allow you to splash the red you have in here and then you'd only need to cut two cards.

Shalai, Voice of Plenty which you could easily replace with Swords to Plowshares. That would give you spot removal, in addition to being another good target for your Isochron Scepter, on that note, you might want to consider replacing Silence with Orim's Chant. Slayers' Stronghold or Sunhome, Fortress of the Legion are both good swaps for Vault of the Archangel

Other swaps to consider Always Watching in place of Serra's Blessing and check out True Conviction in place of Noble Purpose

Caerwyn on How much life do I ...

She did the math incorrectly--doubling effects stack with one another. Here's the breakdown:

Exalted Angel by itself:

Total: 32 Life

Noble Purpose by way of Exalted Angel:

Total: 32 Life

Ormendahl, Profane Prince by itself:

Total: 72 Life

Noble Purpose by way of Ormendahl, Profane Prince:

Total: 72 Life

Grand Total: 32 + 32 + 72 + 72 = 208 Life

So, while playing the other day my friend Ayesha had this on the table:

  1. Alhammarret's Archive
  2. Noble Purpose
  3. 2x Rhox Faithmender

Then she attacked with:

So, according to her the life gain goes like this:

Partial Total of +13 life.

Now:

  1. Alhammarret's Archive (13x2) = 26
  2. Noble Purpose(13x2) = 26
  3. 2x Rhox Faithmender (13x4) = 52

For a grant total of:

+104 life!!!

Is this correct?
