Planeswalker issues

Umm so huge floor with the deck... it can not handle Planeswalkers. Relying on tokens from the horse is not good but it does make for a fun games with essential a clock running on both sides of the game, my mill clock vs the Planeswalker Ultimate clock!!!!

Moved Tuktuk, Rakka Mar, In the Web of War, Eldrazi Monument, Goblin Charbelcher, Fanatic of Mogis, Spawning Breath, Brood Birthing, Great Furnace, and Mogg Alarm to "Maybeboard". Added Goblin Bombardment, Vandalblast, Mirrorworks, Slate of Ancestry, Cloudstone Curio, Ruby Medallion, Spawning Pit, Strionic Resonator, and Pentavus.

Took Undercity Plague out of the sideboard, testing out Nightveil Specter instead of Deathcult Rogue, liking it so far. Further testing will probably result in me keeping him on full time, and actually inserting into deck.

After getting some real playing time, I came to the conclusion that I need to focus this deck much better. Took out Battlewise Hoplite, Ephara, God of the Polis, Dauntless Onslaught and a few other and replaced them with a full playset of Aqueous Form, Ethereal Armor, Bioshift and added 3 Heliod, God of the Sun and 2 Ajani, Caller of the Pride. Still thinking about replacing Nyxborn Shieldmate but not sure what to replace with.

Fabled Hero feature for Heroic Leader

Last FNM: 3rd/4th

Game 1: 2/0

Played U/W control splash Kiora Crashing Wave. Normally a difficult match but won because I was able to bait counters, set my game up with Thoughtseize/Duress after board, Rakdos's Return in both games and removed his win cons.

Game 2: 2/1

VS Esper control I was able to survive the first game with the help of Underworld Connections and beat him down with Stormbreath Dragon and Mogis, God of Slaughter. He got second win because my Underworld Connections was countered and I was mana fucked. Third game I was able to turn 4 Slaughter Games targeting Sphinx's Revelation and it pretty much became a drawn out match until I got back to back Stormbreaths.

Game 3: 1/2

Played a Jund midrange/control deck. It was very hard to sideboard against him and he pretty much ran the same creatures as I except with the added green ramp. Also ran Vraska the Unseen with the control cards instead of kill spells including Abrupt Decay, Golgari Charm, etc.

Game 4: 2/1

VS Naya hexproof that never took off. I was able to Anger of the Gods + Devour Flesh his creatures before they got big. I sided in Duress and Erebos, God of the Dead which helped, but only showed in the third game. His problem was that he kept hands with not enough creatures to bounce back

Top 4: 0/2

I played the same control deck from Game 1 and everything went wrong. First game I was mana flooded and was unable to destroy his planeswalkers. I sided the same stuff as I did in our previous matchup but I got mana fucked and that's that.

My first top 4 and now that my brother is changing decks, I will as well. I've readjusted it for the last time because its difficult to survive to late game. The removal is supposed to hold me over to late game but most of the time I don't have enough in hand or they do too much early damage. Pharika's Cure and extra Ratchet Bombs were suggestions given to me by other players and they make the most sense. Bile Blight is not a 4 of because of the local meta. Not many people play mono-black but when I do go up against them I have other removal spells to deal with rats/devotion.

First FNM

Went 3-2-0 at first FNM. Definitely need to work on which cards to pick out for Thoughtseize/Duress (very important for R/W Burn and B/G graveyard). The two Revokes never came up; didn't play against Xenagod or Thassa. Took out Blood Baron as it just diverts the focus of the deck. Heralds instead of Nightveil seemed to work out okay, but didn't play U/W control which is where I really think it will be more important. Will update further as testing continues.

FNM - 1st Day

Okay, so check out the current build I have listed in this article. I made some changes before going into FNM yesterday, and it worked surprisingly well. Below is a small recap of my matchups.

Round 1 - BANT WALKERS

Okay, so I was kind of worried right off the bat about bant walkers. Game one, I managed to take the win simply because I main deck Hero's Downfall x4. I was able to stifle his first few walkers with those cards and also with Ashen Rider's ETB effect on the whip. After that, my GY was full, I had an obzedat out, and there was very little he could do. Game two, I was too slow and unfortunately his Kiora was out and fully protected. I had to scoop when she managed to do her kraken emblem. Game 3, managed to take a win with blood baron that I brought in from side board and kept it alive with Golgari Charms.

Round 2 - Mono Black

Pretty easy match up. Won game one easily, game two I struggled when he played out two desecration demons and lost. Game three, I dropped turn one on the play pithing needle and declared pack rat. After I won, he told me he kept a hand with 3 rats and a Underworld Connections so the rat basically fucked his day up. I managed to whip out the Ashen Rider to exile his land that had the connections attached to it, and then it was gg.

Round 3 - U/W Control

Oh man, I used to hate this deck but it struggled hard against me. Same thing. I won game one, side boarded in some blood barons and golgari charms to handle his Detention Sphere and board wipes for game two. Game too... nearly went to rounds. I had two really good plays in this game. One, I managed to put out a shitload of lands fetched from Satyr Wayfinder and eventually started collecting cards since he managed to sphinx a few times and gain the advantage. I widdled him down with a few attacks and the bastard stabilized at 2 health and worked his way up to 10 with a few sphinxes while I was sitting at a heft 42 life. I collected cards until I had two Whip of Erebos in hand. Cast one, and the guy only had Syncopate, which he had to pay X=11 for because I had 14 lands. I allowed the counter, played second Whip of Erebos and then whipped out a Blood Baron of Vizkopa Since he was at 10 or less and I was at 30 or more life, he was a 10/10, swing for game. It was a glorious ending that left the guy completely baffled.

Game 4 - B/W Humans.

As one of you guys had said before, this deck suffers a bit against aggro decks. You're completely right, it does. But, it's not so much against G/R monsters as it is this fucking deck. Why? The entire decks is a counter to my deck between Soldier of Pantheon and Blood Baron of Vizkopa both main board. I lost game one, and game two I managed to Merciless Eviction and stabilize, but I had no support cards after that and my GY was bare when I dropped a Whip of Erebos. It came down to the wire, but he ultimately took the win. I could have at least taken game two had I side boarded in Golgari Charm rather than Abrupt Decay but I wasn't thinking straight.

All in all, it's a fantastic deck that has already seen some competitive play. I saw someone running it in SCG open today. Check out the new list and let me know how you guys fared with your variations!

Rogues Passage

Okay, so I decided to sideboard in a few Rogues Passages mainly for the Bant Walkers decks that I'll be undoubtedly facing. I figure the unblockable Polukranos or Kalonian to the face of a planeswalker will be enough to end them fairly well.

FNM results and new changes

so I went 2-3 in FNM. Not exactly the results I wanted but that's ok, it helped me figure out what works and what doesn't. first off the match ups

0-2 G/R mid range; this guy mains Scavenging Ooze which was a big problem. I couldn't draw any of my kill spells so Scavenging Ooze just destroyed my deck. Second match I stopped Scavenging Ooze with Abrupt Decay but then he dropped Kalonian Hydra and it got too big before I could draw into another kill.

1-2 MUD; I should have won this match but I just wasn't able to draw or mill any creatures out of my deck for some reason, the one round I won was because I got creatures.

1-2 G/R mid range; I really should have one this match as well first round he was able to burn off my ramp and just out paced me but second round I was able to keep board presence with a massive 8/8 Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord and a 10/10 [nemesis of mortals. Third round I lost because I miss played I was saving Abrupt Decay for his Domri Rade when I should have used it one his Elvish Mystic which would have stopped him from dropping 2 Stormbreath Dragons

2-0 B/W extort; this was a total stomp I out paced her and she was having real bad mana problems. Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord did his thing and got big and just wiped everything.

2-0 Boros This was also pretty much a stomp. whip of erabos was amazing, it negated the damage he did when swinging with battalion. Then Abrupt Decay and a monstrous polukranos,world eater destroyed his board state and i started swinging for massive amounts of damage.

Changes before FNM started I took out 2 Commune with the Gods and put in two Abrupt Decays i also put Deadbridge Chant and Abrupt Decay in my side board in place of Pharika's Cure I wanted to try Deadbridge Chant and see how it did.

Mainboard

-3 Nighthowler +3 Lotleth Troll I love the idea of Nighthowler but every time I drew it it ended up being a dead draw. Either because there weren't enough creatures in the graveyards for it to be very effective or because I was saving my black mana for Hero's Downfall. With the addition of Lotleth Troll I'm hoping to get a little more early game agression and start filling the graveyard with creatures.

-3 Satyr Wayfinder +3 Manaweft Sliver Having 3 Satyr Wayfinder 4 Grisly Salvage and 2 Commune with the Gods was just too much self mill, so I dropped the Satyr Wayfinders and put in Manaweft Slivers for a little better mana fixing.

-2 Thoughtseize +1 Nemesis of Mortals +1 Vraska the Unseen I moved Thoughtseize to the side board it's an amazing card but I want my deck to be a little more agressive so I bumped Nemesis of Mortals to 4 because it's just too good in my deck. and I wanted to put a second Vraska the Unseen in because when I played her she made a huge difference so I wanted to increase my chance of getting her.

Sideboard

-2 Duress +2 Thoughtseize this is just if I need to control my opponent's hands a little while Thoughtseize does cost 2 life it also opens up throwing out creatures.

-1 Deadbridge Chant +1 Pithing Needle Deadbridge Chant was also a dead draw, when I did play it it didn't really change the game, I either was already winning or I lost. And Pithing Needle is just a good card overall running 2 increases my odds of drawing it.
