Maybeboard

This deck started as a G/R token generating devour deck with Thromok the Insatiable as the commander. It was a really slow and cumbersome deck, but incredibly fun to play, and I could get Thromok up to some pretty insane heights for power/toughness.

But I yearned to make it faster, better, stronger...basically, I wanted to make it prety much -neccissary- for me to have to get a peice of paper to keep track of all the tokens and +1/+1 counters. Well hell, Black has -plenty- of decent token generation. So I bought Kresh the Bloodbraided. :-D

It's still a slower deck, more suited to casual matches that explore what a Commander deck is able to do, but if things go right, it can get scary fast with the right combos of cards. In one playtest, it fully lived up to my expectations. I had Kresh up to somewhere around 47,000 p/t, Thromok was around 34,000 p/t, and Ghoulcaller Gisa had pumped out somewhere in the neighborhood of 75,000 Zombies in one turn...that were all insanely huge thanks to Coat of Arms...I was in heaven. lol

I haven't had a lot of time to test it, but I'm pretty sure it's prolly not incredibly consistent, and could prolly stand to be faster, but I like how it works. I'm open to suggestions for sure. Feel free to comment. And hopefully you enjoy it as much as I do! :-)

AnonmousAxolotl: As a father of 2, I know what you mean. My amazing wife allows me to scrounge up a chunk of money to splurge on a stupid expensive card once in a very, very great while, but most of the time I try to maximize the potential of budget cards. No judgment passed here, my friend.

Thud is a strictly better Fling

AnonmousAxolotl: I agree with you...to a point. Fling is an Instant, which means that if my opponent is moving in for the kill, or trying to board-wipe, or any other tricksy thing opponents like to do, I can turn the tables on them and Fling something big at them, potentially turning a loss into a victory!

That’s fair. As a win con, thud is better, but fling is better otherwise, I guess.

My prossh deck got stolen about a year ago and I'm just now bringing myself to rebuild it and here I am lol. I actually have a Mina and Denn deck and while they're a little slower than burgeoning, the ability to push through Kresh damage could win you some games

And agreed on Fling's utility being way more important. This is not a small mana deck and the likelihood you're short on one mana to cast fling is near zero. Fling also let's you lean harder into developing your boardstate without worrying about getting blown out. I use Tainted Strike for cheese in Prossh but I love Fling in kresh

msanchez13: I'm sorry to hear about your Prossh deck! That really sucks to put so much time, money, and love into a deck, only to have some skeezeball take it away. I wish you all the luck in your journey to rebuild it! I really should slot Mina and Denn, Wildborn into this deck. I can see it coming in very handy...thanks for the idea! I know this deck will never be CEDH worthy, but the faster and meaner I can make it for my local meta, the happier I'll be. (lol)

Sure thing, I never thought about them because Prossh naturally has evasion but it might be just what Kresh is looking for! And eh, I'm not overly torn up because I still have the list, and the original commander (my first, actually!) was in another box. Still tough on the wallet, I appreciate the kind words.

Scepter of Celebration gives Kresh trample and can produce a veritable shit ton of tokens (you can literally sac them all and Kresh/Scepter will just replace them all and possibly more).

Echoing Assault could be very good in your deck mate.

I love the looks of this!! I run a Prossh token deck myself. I actually thought about Blood artist or Zulaport Cutthroat as a replacement for Deathgreeter before I saw your maybeboard. I would also urge you to think about Birthing Pod for tutoring and sac triggers. Cheers, gotta love token decks!!!

msanchez13: Thanks for the encouraging comment, I really appreciate it. I have honestly put a lot of work into this deck, but it's still slower than I would hope, so I'm still constantly looking for ways to improve upon it. I'm still tossed up on the whole Artist/Cutthroat idea. I both love and hate the thought of winning like that...almost seems too cheap, but at the same time epic...I dunno, I'm odd. I'll continue to research. As for Birthing Pod, yes. Yes yes yes. I have one I have to proxy out from another deck, and I'll see how it fits.

This is one of my pet project decks that I will prolly be trying to perfect until I die. lol But thank you for the comment, I appreciate any and all feedback. And anything that can get this deck one step closer to my dream is always welcome.

I LOVE this deck idea, and I have been thinking about what cards I have that could fit. Halana and Alena, Partners is a counter-generating machine when she has been buffed up herself. Visions of Dominance is an instant double on the P/T of Thromok the Insatiable. Hope this comes in handy!

Also, I don't really want to shell out 33 dollars on Burgeoning, would Wayward Swordtooth work as a substitute?

AnonmousAxolotl: I just pulled a Halana and Alena, Partners, and I love the idea. I'm still workin through my ocd issues before I can work through rebuilding decks, but that will be a fantastic card to slot into the deck. I think Wayward Swordtooth would be a decent sub for Burgeoning. I lucked out and was gifted one. I need to get my hands on a Swordtooth...lol

Thanks! I am looking to build this deck, but I don't have unlimited money to spend, so I need to cut corners where I can get away with it. I agree that Zulaport Cutthroat is an awesomely powerful addition to the deck, but basically every black EDH deck uses them these days.
