Here is my third Commander deck, this time featuring my most beloved tribe: Vampires. I bought the new Ixalan precon with Clavileno, First of the Blessed and made some adjustments

Introduction (Original Content)

Clavileno, First of the Blessed found himself increasingly disappointed with his Church and Crown. Over the years, they had turned into institutions dedicated not to the expansion of the vampiric empire and dogma, but to power plays, debauchery, conspiracy, betrayal and personal advancement. The Queen and most of her court now had more in common with the prey than the hunters. Realizing these critical flaws, and under the guidance of his now reclusive mentor Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose, he devised a clandestine expedition to the primal and mysterious lands of Ixalan, previously ravaged by their once glorious civilization, with the few remaining forces and beacons of the race that still held true to their faith, including the wandering priest Mavren Fein, Dusk Apostle, beloved by the masses, the great general Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher, scourge of countless battlefields, and even the fair, graceful princess Elenda, the Dusk Rose herself, all to shift the vampires back towards their original purpose: the dominion over Life and Death.

As if by divine will, Clavileño and Vito had been receiving visions from the imprisoned ancient Bat God Aclazotz, connected with the origins of vampirism. After secretly communing with his proxy Bloodletter of Aclazotz and being promised an Age of Everflowing Blood, not to mention power leagues beyond that of common vampires, if they unleashed the ravenous God upon the world once again, they set sail towards familiar but ever dangerous shores, in order to meet, at last, their ultimate destiny. Such devotion caught the attention of the Legendary Planeswalker Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord, revered by the Children of Night across the multiverse. He made use of his unique powers to summon many vampiric allies and reveal long forgotten secrets from ages both past and parallel to bolster the cause. With this final boon, riding out from their original Ixalanian staging ground of Adanto, the First Fort  , the Blessed will only relent when they find either ascension or extinction

Strategy

Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher is perhaps the most important figure to join Clavileño's crusade. Not only did she muster many troops with her status and charisma, she also has very synergetic abilities with Clavileño. Ideally, we want to have both of them in play in every game (through drawing or tutoring her), so Clavileño can set up creatures to be sacrificed or to have value upon death, and Carmen will not only power herself up, ping for Life, but most importantly bring back fallen allies. With these two, creatures like Elenda's Hierophant, Elenda, the Dusk Rose, Dusk Legion Zealot and Martyr of Dusk, among others, will gain amazing value. The cherry on top is also having Roaming Throne active, since we can now double our effects. Other than this main goal, the deck offers a bit of everything that makes vampires so cool: token generation, sacrifice strategies, drawing extra cards, reanimating losses, syphoning life from enemies and, of course, tribal buffs. All of this complemented by nice interaction and ramp spells

Draw

After embracing their original purpose, the true vampires were gifted with wisdom and cunning that transcend their plane

• Dark Prophecy rewards sacrifices for the cause with cards
• Deadly Dispute sacrifices a creature for cards and treasure
• Minas Tirith rewards attacks with an extra card
• Trouble in Pairs leeches upon opponent's moves for extra cards
• Twilight Prophet is a nice flyer that gives an extra card and life every turn
• Vanquisher's Banner is a bit expensive but more power and a card draw engine is hard to pass up
• Village Rites is not as juicy as Dispute, but it's cheaper

Interactions

Clavileño's sect is well versed in devastating rituals and spells

• Anguished Unmaking exiles a threatning permanent at instant speed
• Damn can be used for spot removal or board wipe
• Feast of Blood kills something and gives some life
• Vanishing Verse exiles a mono-colored permanent for a cheap cost
• Grave Pact makes the opponents join in on the blood sacrifices to Aclazotz
• Olivia's Wrath is a cool Vampire-themed board wipe
• Silence delays plays on a crucial turn
• Swords to Plowshares is a swift exile creature spell
• Tragic Slip takes advantage of things dying to deliver a shattering blow
• Vindicate is a simple but effective "kill anything" spell
• Wrath of God is a classic board wipe

Lifegain

Clavileño and his entourage, like proper vampires, drain the life essence of lesser beings

• Blood Artist chips off an opponent whenever something dies
• Bloodchief Ascension delivers massive amounts of life loss for them and life gain for me
• Cruel Celebrant chips off every opponent whenever something on my side dies
• Exquisite Blood capitalizes on life loss to sustain myself
• Malakir Bloodwitch is another flyer that will drain even more life from all enemies
• Sanctum Seeker makes just the act of attacking painful and rewarding

Power Ups

After being chosen by both Aclazotz and Sorin, Clavileño's forces were granted access to incredible unholy might

• Bloodletter of Aclazotz doubles life loss for the opponents on my turn
• Bloodline Keeper   gives flying tokens and a +2/+2 buff
• Captivating Vampire has a Lord effect and the potential to steal creatures permanently
• Cordial Vampire makes every death nourish my vampiric horde
• Drana, Liberator of Malakir is a great leader for attacking squadrons
• Etchings of the Chosen gives strength and can function as a sac outlet that gives protection
• Legion Lieutenant is a cheap Lord
• Lightning Greaves provides protection to Clavileño or another key vampire
• Roaming Throne makes the many triggered effects present trigger twice
• Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord can power something up, be a sac outlet or can cheat vampires into play
• Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose turns life gain into life loss, and can grant Lifelink

Ramp

Clavileño uses ancient rites, amassed wealth and unique relics to fund and maintain his expedition

• Staple Ramp spells in Arcane Signet, Cabal Ritual, Culling the Weak, Dark Ritual and Sol Ring
• Bontu's Monument reduces costs of most of my creatures while contributing to Lifegain
• Orzhov Signet and Talisman of Hierarchy are my color identity's mana rocks
• Master of Dark Rites sacrifices something for a Dark Ritual effect
• Urza's Incubator is a great mana reduction spell on tribal decks

Reanimation

The Blessed walk the line between Life and Death, and can bypass some of its boundaries

• Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher gets stronger with each sacrifice and reanimates a permanent when attacking
• Dusk Legion Sergeant is great to save vampires from tough combats or board wipes
• Queen's Bay Paladin revives a vampire with ETB and attacks
• Redemption Choir is pretty similar to the Paladin but requires Coven
• Veinwitch Coven uses lifegain to bring back vampires

Saccers

As a dark god, Aclazotz demands blood sacrifices to fuel his power and influence

• Bartolome del Presidio, Indulgent Aristocrat and Viscera Seer are general sac outlets with different effects
• Bloodghast, Dusk Legion Zealot, Martyr of Dusk and Oathsworn Vampire are nice sac creatures

Tokens

The most zealous legions of the imperial army, led by inspiring figures, joined the expedition, refusing to accept the complacence of Queen and Court

• Charismatic Conqueror makes enemies pay a toll in either tapping or giving me tokens
• Elenda's Hierophant grows with lifegain and gives tokens upon death
• Elenda, the Dusk Rose is very similar but uses creature kills instead
• Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet keeps enemy graveyards clean and my board beefed up
• Legion's Landing   gives a token and later a land for more mana or more tokens
• March of the Canonized gives some foot soldiers on entry and a 4/3 flyer every turn
• Pawn of Ulamog recycles slain vampires into tokens that help with ramp

Tutors

Ask and you shall receive. None know this better than devout members of an immortal cult of darkness

• Demonic Tutor and Vampiric Tutor are used to grab a key vampire
• Enlightened Tutor searches for a crucial artifact or enchantment
