Chainer's Value Reanimations

Commander / EDH BR (Rakdos)

MagusofTheFork

The following is mostly speculation. While I have played with the Madness Precon deck using Chainer as the commander I have not played this particular build. I'll update later when I have experience playing the deck as well as if I swap any cards out.

Normally with a reanimator deck you are looking to put high CMC creatures into the graveyard so that you can use reanimation spells to put them into play for much less mana. Chainer isn't good for that because you have to pay the CMC of whatever you want to bring back from the graveyard. So instead this deck uses cheap creatures that provide a lot of value if cast multiple times. There are also a few neat things specific to using chainer here. As Chainer is letting you cast a creature you can spend alternate costs so evoke is really strong here as well as triggering burning vengeance. Unlike a similar commander, Karador, Chainer doesn't limit you to using his ability during your own turn. Mostly this just means you can use him to play cards for their madness cost on other peoples turns but it does also mean you can cast flash creatures on opponents turns. There is only one in the deck but its a strong one; Garna. Garna can act as pretty good boardwipe insurance as you can discard her (or something else if she's already in the graveyard) to Chainers ability in response to a boardwipe, wait for it to resolve then cast Garna from your graveyard to put all the creatures that just died back into your hand.

Another thing Chainer does is let you give creatures haste. Just discard the creature to chainers ability and then use his ability to cast it from the graveyard. The main two creatures that utilize this interaction are Doomed Necromancer which lets me pay only 4 mana to get back the bigger creatures from my graveyard and Tree of Perdition which can threaten to put a player to 13 life without giving them a turn to deal with it first.
