Prosper wanted nothing more than the stage, and yet despite all his efforts, he never made it. One day, he found a mysterious Tome hidden amidst some old show props that he had bought from the ever suspicious Fain, the Broker. Upon opening it, Prosper summoned Lorcan, Warlock Collector who promised him his greatest wish. Prosper wished to finally be accepted on stage, and Lorcan granted his wish, transforming the poor, unsuspecting Prosper into a Tiefling.

Hideous and terribly alone, Prosper ran to the home of his lover, Kalain, Reclusive Painter to whom he explained his predicament. She suggested he try to summon Orcus, Prince of Undeath, Lorcan's greatest rival, and give him the Tome in exchange for helping reverse Prosper's transformation. Kalain brought out The Deck of Many Things, and Prosper drew from it. He ended up successfully summoning Orcus, but he revealed that the Tome and Prosper were now irrevocably linked, throwing the tiefling into even more despair.

Kalain still paints Prosper as he once was, and Prosper still dreams of playing Borachio.
