Behold The Wizard, Beware Its Power

Commander / EDH Combo Mono-Blue Tribal Turns Wizards

EpicLevelBard

The Strategy

The overall strategy of this deck is to play cheap wizards, draw crap loads of cards, take extra turns, turn all of your wizards into Docent of Perfection   and swing for game. Here's how that is accomplished:

  1. In the early game, play mana rocks and cheap wizards.
  2. Play Azami. You should have 2-4 other wizards on the field.
  3. By turn 4 you should have insane card advantage. Now it's time to start utilizing Impulse effects and our draw engine to go for extra turn cards.
  4. You should be taking your 1st extra turn by turn 5 or 6. After this point, you'll continue to take extra turns consecutively while your opponents stare glass-eyed at the havoc you're about to reap. Continue to repeat the "play cheap wizards, draw cards and cast extra turns spells" loop.
  5. At this point, you're digging for Infinite Reflections and Docent of Perfection   to turn all of your wizards into copies of Docent.

This deck is for you if:

  • You want to win by turn 5 or 6
  • You want to play something on theme
  • You don't want to win with Lab Maniac
  • You want to play a high-synergy deck

This deck is not for you if:

  • You play in a casual meta
  • You don't want to watch your opponents stare of into the distance while you play by yourself
  • You don't want to feel like you're playing solitaire

Bad Match Ups

You'll have difficulty playing against decks that limit the amount of cards you can draw a turn, prevent you from taking extra turns and fast aggro strategies.

Budget Cuts

Force of Will is replaceable with another counterspell, but the rest of the deck is optimized to work with every other card. I wouldn’t recommend budget swaps.

Out

I've never had enough mana open the cast counterspells, and running just two is pointless. You have to go hard or go home into counterspells. I don't need the card draw I get from Rhystic Study.

In

Aether Gale can decimate an opponent and stall them long enough for me to win. High Tide is amazing and I've always had luck with Ponderlike effects.
