Tarland, Control Slinger

Commander / EDH* Control Mono-Blue

whodat0920

Mono-blue deck of my 32 deck challenge, a fairly basic Talrand spellslinger deck, one modeled after one of the budget versions seen on MTGGoldfish. This one is a little bit less budget, adding in some better wipes, counters, and protection. Typical ways of winning still include swarming with your summoned drakes, cheating out one of your creatures via Proteus Staff, Polymorph or Reweave, or stealing and/or copying key creatures and wincons from opponents. Isochron scepter + one of the many counterspells or other instants aren't necessarily win conditions, but definitely smooth out the deck. As with most mono-blue controlly decks, I personally feel this functions best 1 v 1 or with 3 opponents - 4 stretches your spells a bit thin, though it's still very fun to play and strategize.

As always, any reasonably budget recommendations will be considered and appreciated.

The new Battlebond set doesn't offer us that much - I considered putting in Out of Bounds, but really wasn't sure what to replace it with. Sentinel Tower and Victory chimes were fairly good though, the former as an additional source of damage on turns when you're cantripping the hell out of your deck, and the latter because it will always give you a mana for potential counterspelling regardless of whose turn it is.
