Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief

A mono-black ramp/control deck with a voltron package, built to make use of Drana's ability to remove threats and win through commander damage.

Card choices:

Removal Suite: A high amount of removal was included to enable the deck to stall until cards like Cabal Coffers, Extraplanar Lens, Caged Sun, etc. come online. Damnation was excluded for budget reasons. Scour from Existence and Steel Hellkite take care of any problem enchantments while cards like Hero's Downfall, Go for the Throat and Barter in Blood take care of creatures. Forced March lets us clear the board from any potential chump blockers before swinging with Drana. Pestilence works well against tokens and other decks that want to go wide.

Voltron Package: Lashwrithe and Nightmare Lash get out of control fast, especially with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth. Sword of Feast and Famine feeds Drana's ability to remove enemy creatures and provides protection. Hatred can lead to surprise kills. Shizo, Death's Storehouse provides Drana with additional evasion.

Ramp: Caged Sun, Gauntlet of Power, Extraplanar Lens, Nirkana Revenant and Crypt Ghast all serve as valuable mana doublers. Cabal Coffers has great synergy with Thespian's Stage and Deserted Temple. The large amount of ramp enables us to buff up Drana and take someone out of the game, cast the more expensive cards in our deck such as Decree of Pain, and gives cards like Black Sun's Zenith a much greater range of potential targets.

Protection: Infernal Darkness, No Mercy and Lethal Vapors buys the deck valuable time to find resources to do what it wants to do. Conqueror's Flail serves as additional protection from instant speed removal, in addition to Swiftfoot Boots and Lightning Greaves.

Tutors: Expedition Map fetches important lands such as Cabal Coffers, Thespian's Stage and Deserted Temple among others.

Recursion: Nim Deathmantle serves both as evasion for Drana and and insurance against removal, as Drana is fairly expensive to cast. Beacon of Unrest gets any utility creature or artifact from the graveyard. Usually gets Sword of Feast and Famine or any mana doubler back. Petrified Field almost always targets Cabal Coffers, but can fetch other important lands such as Shizo, Death's Storehouse and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth as well. Shrouded Lore takes advantage of the large amount of ramp the deck runs. Mostly effective in the early-mid game as getting every card back from your graveyard is actually rather likely.

Graveyard Hate: Mostly tuned after my local meta and might differ from playgroup to playgroup.

Other Utility Lands: Thawing Glaciers ensure we hit as many land drops as possible, which is important due to a large amount of the deck's ramp being reliant on Swamps. Myriad Landscape was included for the same reason.

Other: Rings of Brighthearth works well with Drana's ability and generates a lot of mana when combined with Cabal Coffers. Myojin of Night's Reach disrupts combo strategies and most importantly affects every opponent. Sudden Spoiling works well with Drana's ability, letting us pick off creatures that would otherwise be out of range.
