Purphoros is one of the strongest EDH-decks in mono red. It's one of the few competitive ways of playing a burn strategy in Commander. I've been streamlining the build for a while now. The best thing about this deck is that you run a super agressive strategy, nontheless you are not at all relying on combat to get your damage through. Also, you are likely to take down all of your enemies in one big turn. This deck is fast, hits hard and kills most of the grindier decks, while they are still assembling their mana base. Getting out Purphoros as fast as possible is crucial, since there are only few cards that you want to cast before Big P has hit the board. Therefore, I'm currently considering more ramp cards like Coldsteel Heart, Wayfarer's Bauble and Ancient Tomb. Mainly, I'm running ramp spells, cards that give me a lot of etb triggers for Purphoros and some damage doublers. I'm further combining this with artifact hate to slow my enemies down by wrecking their artifact ramp and some land hate such as Magus of the Moon. I'm currently thinking about more land hate with cards like Ruination, but since there are quite a lot of mono coloured decks in my meta I think it could be a waste of a card slot. I'm also running a few sweepers such as Blasphemous Act or Goblin Assassin because I do not really care when my tokens die. Once they triggered Purphoros's ability their job is done. It is dangerous for the deck, if it runs out of gas too early. To avoid this I included tutoring effects for goblins and wheel effects. One combo this deck has is Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Lightning Crafter for infinite etb triggers.Notice that in most cases I prefer keeping my devotion count below 5 to prevent Purphoros from being removed to easily. Cards like Furnace of Rath can be problematic because of this.
