Creature — Bird Cleric

When Celestial Gatekeeper dies, exile it, then return up to two target Bird and/or Cleric permanent cards from your graveyard to the battlefield.

Celestial Gatekeeper Discussion

If I have 2 clerics and a Celestial Gatekeeper on the board and my opponent Uses a sweeper to send them all to the Graveyard at the same time, can I trigger Celestial Gatekeeper to return the other two creatures to play?

While I like Celestial Gatekeeper the part where it exiles itself is pretty inconvenient especially when I am geared to be able to reoccur creatures with Ravos, Soultender, the irony is he would have a place if he was less tribal and could target Angel of Glory's Rise as she is really one of the only targets worth a one shot reanimation effect. If I were running Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim as the commander I think I would add it as he makes good sacrificial fodder. Thank you for the suggestions and please keep them coming.

I understand that.

How about Celestial Gatekeeper then? It's a terribly less powerful reveillark for birds and clerics only...there is no other limitation on what to reanimate though.

If you're going deep on Clerics, here are some of your payoff cards: Vile Deacon, Shieldmage Elder, Rotlung Reanimator, Akroma's Devoted, Battlefield Medic, Celestial Gatekeeper. It feels like all of those provide more value to doing cleric things.

Otherwise Felidar Sovereign seems like a great addition to the deck in terms of the lifegain synergy. Blazing Archon is really synergistic with the fort strategy, but isn't a cleric. Meekstone can also be pretty effective in the pillowfort plan. Ensnaring Bridge is also pretty good at that but might be a little pricey. Add something like Juntu Stakes or Reverence to build your own Blazing Archon. Also consider some additional interaction with opponents' permanents, Swords to Plowshares, Path to Exile, Revoke Existence, Dawn to Dusk.

Potential cuts:

Ghostway - I guess I just don't see enough ETB effects to support the inclusion of this card.

Holy Day - I don't know if Fog does enough for you to support taking up a whole card slot.

Intervention Pact - I suppose this could have some corner uses, but I think you can do enough of this effect with your clerics that this might not be necessary.

Celestial Convergence - Cool card but without a way to cheat the counters off, I feel like it would cause too much trouble politically. 7 turns is a long time to make sure you're at the highest life total.

Story Circle - Seems like there are too many possible colors that people could have that could mess you up. Also doesn't do anything against colorless creatures.

Norn's Annex - Pretty bad against white decks, could be effective against others.

Blinding Souleater - Can only lock down one creature at a time, not a big enough body to make it worth it in EDH.

Banisher Priest - Makes boardwipes feel bad when everyone loses their stuff and your opponent gets back their fatty that you were trying to save everyone from.

Devout Chaplain - You have 14 humans currently... it's not impossible that you'll have 3 of them on the battlefield at one time, but if you don't then this is just a Gray Ogre

Inquisitor Exarch - Doesn't feel like you get enough value out of this for it to be a whole card in your deck.

Harsh Mercy - Potentially ineffective against 1 or more decks... for example if someone in the group is playing a zombie deck, then they just laugh when you cast this.

Cool deck idea. I probably wouldn't have picked out clerics as a good / powerful strategy, but this looks like a really good deck.

Remove these creature cards: Whipgrass Entangler, Skirsdag High Priest,Rotlung Reanimator, Pulsemage Advocate, Pontiff of Blight, Order of Whiteclay, Edgewalker, Drana's Emissary, Celestial Gatekeeper, Cabal Archon, Beacon of Destiny, Battletide Alchemist, Banisher Priest, and maybe even Athreos, God of Passage. Most of them are in the deck to create a cleric subtheme, and provide little benefit by themselves. You could replace them with much more useful cards, either for threat generation, comboing out, reanimation, or filtering through your deck. Once they're out of the deck Door of Destinies stops being worth the slot. Profane Prayers is also an iffy card that only plays on a subtheme that is dragging down the deck.Vivid Marsh and Vivid Meadow are slowing your deck down, since they only tap for one color of mana and provide no interaction with other cards in the deck they're not worth the cost of coming in tapped. Westvale Abbey  Flip is not worth the cost to transform it, essentially 6 mana, 5 creatures, and sacrificing a land for a creature that doesn't change the game that much is very iffy. And using it to create creature tokens is even more iffy.

Cards like Animate Dead, Necromancy, Victimize, Nim Deathmantle, Mimic Vat, Phyrexian Delver, Marshal's Anthem, and Sheoldred, Whispering One can set you up with a nice reanimation package and help to maximize your card advantage.

As for replacing some of your creatures Reveillark is a very good add, and his best friend Karmic Guide feeds into a reanimation package and allows for you to go infinite.Leonin Relic-Warder can generate infinite ETB and LTB effects when it's reanimated by Animate Dead or Necromancy (not the temporary exile effect though, that's used on the enchantment used to reanimate it). And it can be killed off by Ayli to permanently exile and pesky artifacts or enchantments your opponents have out there.Blood Artist makes an opponent less likely to boardwipe out of fear of taking a bunch of damage, and it can be abused to kill everyone off fairly easily.Vizkopa Guildmage is an absolute powerhouse. He combos, he synergizes, he's decent by himself. A wise opponent will use their valuable removal getting rid of this guy, a less wise opponent will learn to fear him after he costs them a couple of games.Tree of Perdition by itself this card will reduce a single opponent's life total to very little. You can then gain a bunch of life by sacrificing the tree. With Vizkopa Guildmage, Sanguine Bond or a similar effect out can kill everyone off by sacrificing this tree. And if all you do is a gain a bunch of life and almost kill off a single opponent, the life gain will enable you to exile permanents with Ayli's second ability.Felidar Sovereign is a card that an Ayli deck can easily win with, but that a lot of people have problems running. It's really good, and it wins games, but I get if you choose not to use it.Grim Haruspex is a card you should run, drawing a lot of cards is good and with a couple of infinite death combos in the deck you can draw until you get what you need.Smothering Abomination pretty much the same reasons as the Haruspex.Kokusho, the Evening Star this dragon does a lot. It gains you a lot of life, and it hurts all of your opponents. Slap your Gift of Immortality on him and watch as your opponents scramble to find an answer to the 5 life a turn, every turn (even theirs).Sidisi, Undead Vizier is a nice tutor that you can use multiple times through reanimation. And black excels at reanimation.

Stuff like Ashnod's Altar, Skullclamp, Sword of the Animist, Aura of Silence, and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth all fit well in Ayli deck too.

My Ayli deck runs pretty smoothly, and you might get some ideas from it.
