===accordion ===panel: Changelog 20-04-2024 Out

In

Reasons for removal:

  • I want to use Aria of Flame in another deck, and it never really felt impactful in this one.

Reasons for adding:

  • I think the deck has enough instants to give this wincon a try.

===accordion ===panel: Changelog 20-04-2024 Out

In

Reasons for removal:

  • Fight with Fire is clunky to use as a face burn spell.
  • Archmage Emeritus makes it hard to stack cards on the top of your deck to play them and copy them with Melek, so it just feels like a nonbo.
  • I don't like how Compulsive Research plays in this deck. Cycling is good, but this deck really likes keeping cards on hand.
  • Arcane Lighthouse isn't really necessary in this deck anymore. I'm building another deck in which it will fit way better.
  • Will Kenrith and The Mirari Conjecture just don't really work. The cards might be too expensive for what they do or too slow.
  • Ardent Elementalist is the lesser option.
  • I know Sensei's Divining Top is a great card, and simply put: I don't know how to make the most of it, so it mostly frustrates me. I'll have to put it on a more try-hard deck and learn how to use it better.
  • Narset's Reversal is also a really good card, but I feel like it doesn't live up to its potential in this deck. Moving it to another deck.

Reasons for adding:

  • Replace at least one of the draw spells with one I like better for this deck: Concentrate.
  • Silundi Vision fills the land slot most of the time, and finds me spells when I need them.
  • Aria of Flame gives a little bit of burn and is hard to remove, making it easier to eventually kill your opponents.
  • Errant, Street Artist is a cheap way to copy a copy, which might be good.
  • I've been missing cards like Return the Favor and Reverberate to copy my opponents stuff, or to just copy one of my own spells.
  • Strionic Resonator can potentially go very hard with all the triggers in this deck. Works also as a semi-copy effect. Worth a try.
  • Bloodwater Entity placing spells on the top is just great, and as such is the better option.
  • Leyline of Anticipation doubles up on what this deck just wants: play at flash speed as much as possible. The deck used to do that all the time, and it felt amazing. I want that again.

long time no update

every so often when new sets come out i'll consider new stuff for the list, but i generally don't make any lasting changes because i can't quite get the balance of things down. all in all it's just too consistent for what i want it to be since it's all about the polymorph and commander. i'm unsure if that'll ever change, but for now i consider this list retired. it's still good but needs the right table tbh..

I had a good amount of what was suggested already, so I modified the deck with these updates:

1x Myriad Landscape 1x Karn's Bastion 1x Fabled Passage 1x Inspiring Call 1x Kami of Whispered Hopes 1x Tireless Tracker 1x Doubling Season 1x Greater Good 1x Kodama of the West Tree 1x Nissa, Vital Force 1x Vigor 1x Scapeshift 1x Gyre Sage -1x Farseek -1x Thought Vessel -1x Lotus Cobra -1x Yedora, Grave Gardener -1x Harvest Season -1x The Skullspore Nexus -1x Wrenn and Seven -1x Nissa, Ascended Animist -1x Questing Beast -1x Crucible of Worlds -3x Forest

Nissa, Vital Force, I think, will work better than Horn of Greed in many cases, giving opponents resources is hard, especially in my play group, so I typically prefer finding a better option for that and she fits pretty well, a good suggestion from one of my play group. The rest of the edits, I think, giving more +1/+1 counters, is better for the deck overall. Parallel Lives I don't think does quite enough but leaving out Doubling Season was incorrect originally. We'll see where this goes from there, does seem better.

Demoted to Digital. I think the concept of this deck leads to making a stax deck with a slow wincon, which sounds like the worst of both worlds.

A new Commander Philosophy Document

Beebles, 1 week ago

I’d like to bring to your attention that with the latest quarterly update the Commander Rules Committee has published a new [Philosophy document](https://mtgcommander.net/index.php/the-philosophy-of-commander/) on their website, which was mainly written by Jim LaPage. A draft of it had already been teased in the “[Commander State Of The Format 2023](https://articles.starcitygames.com/magic-the-gathering/commander-state-of-the-format-2023/)”, but now we have the final version. I personally really like this new iteration. Especially because the philosophy document no longer makes any value judgements about other people’s preferences. I recall the old one said something along the lines of: “the format can be easily broken; we believe it’s more fun when you don’t”. Instead, this version puts the arrival at a shared set of expectations front and centre, regardless of what those preferences might be, making it much more inclusive for cEDH players and more neutral in tone. This is driven home with the sentence:
**_“Help players communicate their preferences and arrive at a shared set of expectations“_**
This line could very well be the mission statement of the EDH Multiverse, so of course I am very happy this emphasis on being cognizant of the preferences of others and finding a shared ballpark is now so clearly reflected in the philosophy document. Ultimately, the goal of any pregame talk is not to achieve perfect balance or to agree on what the power level of each deck is, but to arrive at a shared set of expectations of the game you’re about to play.
