"Infinite" combos
General forum

Well, I am a big fan of finishing with a flourish. What better way to do that than to take a very thick stack of creature toekns, and plop them onto the table, saying "Repeat this many times!"
That is right, I want to see any combos that involve infinity, just put down the names of the required cards, the amount of them needed, and a basic description of how the combo plays out.
It doesn't matter how wacky they are, if you have found a way to break a card or many cards together, put it here!
Can't wait to see what comes up, and I hope this thread is in the front of your mind whenever you see a new combo!

hey alzhander, as of the last time i looked at the rules for magic causing a lock state is considered a loss unless you can break that state , i.e. three faceless butchers is a losing proposition, you cause a static lock and have no way to stop it from resulting in a continuous loop and a loss
November 23, 2010 8:53 a.m.
necroignis, sorry to tell you but that's wrong. I'm assuming you're talking about Faceless Devourer . If you have 3 of them there is a continuous loop and the game CANNOT end. However, it does not cause you to lose, instead it leaves the game in a draw.
Oracle text: "9/25/2006: Three Faceless Devourers cast in succession with no other creatures with shadow on the battlefield will result in an infinite loop and the game will be a draw, unless a player somehow interrupts the loop."
I mostly know about this because my friend uses them to cause draws in 8-man free-for-all games just to be that guy. :P
November 23, 2010 11:11 a.m.
Okay, so I didn't realize there was a card called Faceless Butcher (this is why formatting helps so people don't think it's a typo -_-) until I looked at the front page again, buuuut the rules are the exact same for both Faceless Butcher and Faceless Devourer .
What Alzhander said way back when was correct.

Earthcraft +card:Dawn's Reflection/Fertile Ground /Heartstone /Training Grounds +Ant Queen /Sliver Queen /Spawnsire of Ulamog /Sacred Mesa /Goblin Warrens
Goblin Warrens requires 2 goblins to start it, and some of these combos can use other pieces instead, but any of these combos produce infinite mana and infinite tokens.

I use these combo's in my black kamikaze deck.
Combos:
infinate sac 1: 1 Deathgreeter , 2 Nether Traitor , 1 Carnival of Souls , 1 of either Viscera Seer or Bloodthrone Vampire .
infinate sac 2: 1 Deathgreeter , 1 Pawn of Ulamog , 1 Reassembling Skeleton , 1 Carnival of Souls , 1 of either Viscera Seer or Bloodthrone Vampire .
infinate life: 2 Deathgreeter , 2 Nether Traitor , 1 Carnival of Souls , 1 of either Viscera Seer or Bloodthrone Vampire .
infinate mana: 1 Deathgreeter , 1 Pawn of Ulamog , 2 Nether Traitor , 1 Carnival of Souls , 1 of either Viscera Seer or Bloodthrone Vampire .
infinate library exile: 1 Deathgreeter , 1 Thoughtpicker Witch , 1 Pawn of Ulamog , 1 Nether Traitor , 1 Carnival of Souls .
bloodthrone makes a ton of damage and viscera seer allows me to scry my entire deck until i get what i want. and Mortician Beetle will get super huge for any of these combos and add Grave Pact and say goodbye to all other creatures in play.

Candelabra of Tawnos + Tolarian Academy /Cabal Coffers
Cabal Coffers + 2< swamps + Fertile Ground + Fatestitcher /Magus of the Candelabra + Freed from the Real
Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth is also pretty nifty with this

emblasochist says... #13
@Nethermind you need two artifacts to use the Candelabra of Tawnos and Tolarian Academy for infinite blue. Admittedly, once you got a Darksteel Relic even, you just won the game as a blue player...
June 16, 2011 2:09 a.m.
ibstudent2200 says... #14
@Nethermind @emblasochist look at the Oracle text on the Candelabra. It taps to activate, but that was implicit for old artifacts, so it's not shown in the activation cost. Those combos don't work. If you add Voltaic Construct and Karn, Silver Golem, it works, though (you need more mana to start it up, but if you have Voltaic Construct, that's probably easy).

i didn't know that, but i suppose you could add a Fatestitcher and a Freed from the Real or something

Infinite 1/1 merfolk, infinite life, and infinite look at top card of your library combos with the deckI Just Came to Say Untap
The biggest combo is Stonybrook Schoolmaster plus Freed from the Real plus Paradise Mantle for infinite 1/1s.
Another utility combo is the Puresight Merrow with Paradise Mantle equipped which makes it possible to tap and untap him infinitely to search the deck for something.
Both these make you gain infinite life if Judge of Currents is out.

Has a lot of infinite combos...
Haru-Onna + Haru-Onna + Tangleroot
Throw in an Animar, Soul of Elements and you got a 9000+/9000+ pro white and black creature and all your creatures cost 9000+ less to cast...
(Actually you have to have Animar, Soul of Elements already in play @ 3 count for this to work...)

LattureMan says... #21
Okay, I have 2.
One is with Myrs. You need the infinite mana combo with Myr Galvanizer x2 and Palladium Myr . Next, you play Mirrorworks with that infinite mana. This will allow you to play an infinite amount of any artifact. 10,000 Myr Battlesphere s? Mhm.
Okay, next one I like a little more. It involves Venser, the Sojourner , Mnemonic Wall and Silence . Play silence during your opponents upkeep, then bounce Mnemonic Wall in your turn to get Silence back, and then repeat for infinite silences!
July 12, 2011 12:30 p.m.
Justarsaus says... #23
LattureMan sadly the first one would not work :( because Mirrorworks is a triggered ability not an activated one
July 12, 2011 1:03 p.m.
ibstudent2200 says... #24
@LattureMan Mirrorworks doesn't work there. You can only pay the mana once, because Mirrorworks has only a triggered ability. If you were to say, find a way to infinitely bounce an artifact, you could produce infinite copies, given infinite mana. To that end, I recommend Crystal Shard and Voltaic Construct. Neither of them are in Standard, though.
July 12, 2011 1:06 p.m.
Regiment47 says... #25
Myr Battlesphere , from what I've been told, cannot use two Myr Galvanizer s and a Palladium Myr to unlimitedly tap myr into his ability. The Galvanizers ability would be in response to another activated ability and it would go on the stack, which would take place either before or after the resolve if Battlesphere's ability. Thus, it cannot be done at the same time.
Eg1, I choose to tap the 4 myr tokens into battlesphere to boost his attack power and to deal 4 damage to target player. (thats ok)
Eg2, I choose to tap the 4 myr tokens in the battlesphere, then use the galvanizers ability with the palladium myr to continuously untap the myr I'm tapping into the battlesphere attack. (That is not ok)
because you can't activate and activated ability in the middle of another activated ability.
July 15, 2011 1:06 a.m.
Justarsaus says... #27
well what he was talking about is copying Myr Battlesphere an insane number of times with Mirrorworks using an infinte mana combo with the 2 Myr Galvanizer s and Palladium Myr
but yes you are correct because again the battlesphere has a triggered ability (tap the myr creatures get a power boost when it attacks)

you tap the mana creature (lets say Priest of Titania ) for mana, then return the symbiote to your hand with its own ability and untap the priest, then play the symbiote again and repeat till you have the desiered amount of mana
the you can use the extra mana to use the symbiote to do the same to any of your other creatuers or use the infient mana on activated abilitys
its a vary oppen endded combo only limited by your imagenation and a 4th turn kill at best

Cauldron of Souls +Reaper King +any 2 scarecrows]]+Juniper Order Ranger +Door of Destinies to make your scarecrows infinite/infinites
or alternately replace the door with Mana Echoes for infi colourless mana
August 16, 2011 9:01 p.m.
xxxxxxCronoxxxxxx says... #45
+1+1 counters do not remove -1-1 counters so juniper order rangers will not let you continue to bring back the 1 scarecrow back from persist
you activate cauldron of souls to give one of your scarecrows persist,
you kill the scarecrow,
persist brings it back with a -1-1 counter,
juniper order ranger and reaper king acivate when it comes back into play,
you have the ranger resolve first putting a +1+1 counter and then you have the reaper king activate killing the scarecrow off again,
since the scarecrow had a -1-1 counter on it when it died persist will not save it this time
combo broken
you would need something like Melira, Sylvok Outcast insted of juniper order ranger to make this combo work
door of destinies would work realy well with my Conspiracy combo
August 17, 2011 4:14 a.m.
Nethermind's combo works.
121.2. If a permanent has both a +1/+1 counter and a -1/-1 counter on it, N +1/+1 and N -1/-1 counters are removed from it as a state-based action, where N is the smaller of the number of +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters on it.

xxxxxxCronoxxxxxx are you new to magic or just trolling?
- Creatures affected by Xenograft do not become the selected type until they resolve. This is why "whenever you cast an X creature spell, do blah blah..." does not work. Allies, however only check what the creature enters the battlefield as, which, according to Xenograft , is the chosen type at all times. This is why the ranger realises the wolves are ally creatures, thus it activates.
- +1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters cancel out as a state based effect
