Anje Falkenrath might be brand new to commander, but I believe that I have already “broken” her. Essentially, we have a 60 card deck, thanks to 40 cards with madness that cost us virtually nothing to have in hand or discard to Anje’s ability. We use her ability to churn through our deck until we draw a combination of either Worldgorger dragon + Animate Dead OR 2 castable tutors that will leave us with 2 mana.

Using an old favorite of Worldgorger Dragon and Animate Dead, we can execute a whole bunch of shenanigans. If infinite mana wasn’t enough, we can use Anje to discard Avacyn’s judgement, casting it off of madness where X = 1,000,000. We use Kozilek and Ulamog to make sure that we don’t run out of cards (all we need to do is pitch them to Anje and we shuffle our graveyard back into our deck). We can do some fun stuff with shuffle triggers on the stack too, by activating anje any number of times (effectively sculpting our hand for free). Whether you chose to play casually and just cast the stuff from madness, or have intent to bring Anje to a tier 1 table, she is a ton of fun to pilot. While she isn’t as strong as “food chain” or “flash hulk” decks, anje goes off on turn 3 reasonably consistently and requires almost no setup (our setup is having cards in hand that have madness), leading to a lot of competitive tables being won “out of no where” we we go off in response to our opponents “flash” with a necromancy + dragon line.

In short, if you are looking for a cheap EDH deck that can be played casually OR competitively, in my opinion, there is no option more appealing than Anje Falkenrath
