I wanted to make a fun deck for a group I play with that limits our decklist to $100 commander decks. I seemed to have missed the mark with Infect and Turbo Fog, so I tried for something simpler.

I wanted to build a deck full of eggs and changelings with Atla Palini at the helm because I thought it would be fun to have another creature pop up every time one of mine died. While the creatures were cheap, I quickly found that I had about 30 cards to go, and no idea what to put in it. I started by adding some ramp, but then this thought process started:

  • What if I cracked those eggs myself to make an omelette? Could I use sac outlet effects, or even board wipes that miss my general? The board wipes would be totally one-sided, and free sac outlets could chain together a good two dozen times.
  • But wait, what if two of my eggs were Karmic Guide and Reveillark? Then the sac outlets could loop infinitely. Okay, let's add free sac outlets that can kill.
  • Oh holy moly, Reveillark can bring back Dinosaur Egg and bring out all the cards in my deck. So I only need a free sac outlet then.

End result, I have 9 sac outlets and 5 tutors. I can reliably get my general out on turn 3-4 then the turn after I play my general I can play a sac outlet and tap my general to make an egg. That's game over somewhere between turns 4-5.

Aw dang, this was supposed to be casual.

Update: And now it's led by Dr. Ian Malcom, which is perfect. Here's why summed up in two of his quotes: “...Your Scientists Were So Preoccupied With Whether Or Not They Could, They Didn’t Stop To Think If They Should.” “Genetic Power’s The Most Awesome Force The Planet’s Ever Seen, But You Wield It Like A Kid Who’s Found His Dad’s Gun.”
