Woodland Changeling

Creature — Shapeshifter

Changeling (This card is every creature type at all times.)

Caerwyn on Kinship Question

I have a few additions to the above response--it answered your main question, but I wanted to make sure your question of "what exactly is a creature type?" was fully explained as well.

"Creature Types" are the subtypes relevant to Creatures and Tribal Cards (ex. Elvish Promenade). The 261 (as of the time of writing) different types of creature type are defined by Rule 205.3m, which is fairly lengthy so I have covered it by the spoiler block below.

As noted in the above answer, each of these exist independently from one another, so a creature that "Creature - Elf Warrior" is both an Elf and Warrior.

However, there are a few points I think are also worth mentioning:

  1. If your Winnower Patrol gains a creature type, such as with Angelic Destiny, then it will be a Creature - Elf Warrior Angel, and any of those three creature types could implicate Kinship. Or if it loses creature types, such as with Darksteel Mutation, it will only have the relevant creature types (Insect in this example).

  2. As noted above, Tribal cards also have creature type. Winnower Patrol's kinship ability will "see" Elvish Promenade because Promenade shares the Elf creature type, even though it is not a creature.

  3. Changeling is a characteristic defining ability that means the card has all creature types. Kinship will see a card with changeling, such as Woodland Changeling or Crib Swap.

Creatures and tribals share their lists of subtypes; these subtypes are called creature types. The creature types are Advisor, Aetherborn, Ally, Angel, Antelope, Ape, Archer, Archon, Army, Artificer, Assassin, Assembly-Worker, Atog, Aurochs, Avatar, Azra, Badger, Barbarian, Bard, Basilisk, Bat, Bear, Beast, Beeble, Beholder, Berserker, Bird, Blinkmoth, Boar, Bringer, Brushwagg, Camarid, Camel, Caribou, Carrier, Cat, Centaur, Cephalid, Chimera, Citizen, Cleric, Cockatrice, Construct, Coward, Crab, Crocodile, Cyclops, Dauthi, Demigod, Demon, Deserter, Devil, Dinosaur, Djinn, Dog, Dragon, Drake, Dreadnought, Drone, Druid, Dryad, Dwarf, Efreet, Egg, Elder, Eldrazi, Elemental, Elephant, Elf, Elk, Eye, Faerie, Ferret, Fish, Flagbearer, Fox, Fractal, Frog, Fungus, Gargoyle, Germ, Giant, Gnoll, Gnome, Goat, Goblin, God, Golem, Gorgon, Graveborn, Gremlin, Griffin, Hag, Halfling, Hamster, Harpy, Hellion, Hippo, Hippogriff, Homarid, Homunculus, Horror, Horse, Human, Hydra, Hyena, Illusion, Imp, Incarnation, Inkling, Insect, Jackal, Jellyfish, Juggernaut, Kavu, Kirin, Kithkin, Knight, Kobold, Kor, Kraken, Lamia, Lammasu, Leech, Leviathan, Lhurgoyf, Licid, Lizard, Manticore, Masticore, Mercenary, Merfolk, Metathran, Minion, Minotaur, Mole, Monger, Mongoose, Monk, Monkey, Moonfolk, Mouse, Mutant, Myr, Mystic, Naga, Nautilus, Nephilim, Nightmare, Nightstalker, Ninja, Noble, Noggle, Nomad, Nymph, Octopus, Ogre, Ooze, Orb, Orc, Orgg, Otter, Ouphe, Ox, Oyster, Pangolin, Peasant, Pegasus, Pentavite, Pest, Phelddagrif, Phoenix, Phyrexian, Pilot, Pincher, Pirate, Plant, Praetor, Prism, Processor, Rabbit, Ranger, Rat, Rebel, Reflection, Rhino, Rigger, Rogue, Sable, Salamander, Samurai, Sand, Saproling, Satyr, Scarecrow, Scion, Scorpion, Scout, Sculpture, Serf, Serpent, Servo, Shade, Shaman, Shapeshifter, Shark, Sheep, Siren, Skeleton, Slith, Sliver, Slug, Snake, Soldier, Soltari, Spawn, Specter, Spellshaper, Sphinx, Spider, Spike, Spirit, Splinter, Sponge, Squid, Squirrel, Starfish, Surrakar, Survivor, Tentacle, Tetravite, Thalakos, Thopter, Thrull, Tiefling, Treefolk, Trilobite, Triskelavite, Troll, Turtle, Unicorn, Vampire, Vedalken, Viashino, Volver, Wall, Warlock, Warrior, Weird, Werewolf, Whale, Wizard, Wolf, Wolverine, Wombat, Worm, Wraith, Wurm, Yeti, Zombie, and Zubera.

Webweaver Changeling , Game-Trail Changeling , Changeling Titan , Chameleon Colossus and Woodland Changeling are all shaman AND snakes

Nature's Chosen and Instill Energy if you want more mana

Wolf-Skull Shaman , Reach of Branches

If you really want to do +1 counters you should get at least one Proliferate card. Not only do you get more counters on your creatures but you can put more counters on Orochi Hatchery and Angelheart Vial . Contagion Clasp , Contagion Engine , Karn's Bastion etc.

vic: If there is one Lavabelly Sliver on the battlefield then Woodland Changeling's abilities will be

  • Changeling
  • When this creature enters the battlefield, it deals 1 damage to target player or planeswalker and you gain 1 life

If there are two Lavabelly Slivers on the battlefield then Woodland Changeling's abilities will be

  • Changeling
  • When this creature enters the battlefield, it deals 1 damage to target player or planeswalker and you gain 1 life
  • When this creature enters the battlefield, it deals 1 damage to target player or planeswalker and you gain 1 life

Does that make more sense? Because it affects itself, a single Lavabelly Sliver on the battlefield will have:

  • Sliver creatures you control have "When this creature enters the battlefield, it deals 1 damage to target player or planeswalker and you gain 1 life"
  • When this creature enters the battlefield, it deals 1 damage to target player or planeswalker and you gain 1 life

And what we were trying to express earlier is that if two Lavabelly Slivers enter the battlefield at the same time, they'll both have:

  • Sliver creatures you control have "When this creature enters the battlefield, it deals 1 damage to target player or planeswalker and you gain 1 life"
  • When this creature enters the battlefield, it deals 1 damage to target player or planeswalker and you gain 1 life
  • When this creature enters the battlefield, it deals 1 damage to target player or planeswalker and you gain 1 life

That's why you get two triggers from each of them.

Rhadamanthus well see, the quote's just the thing. It makes it so that each other sliver enters as a creature that says "When THIS creature etb, IT deals 1 damage..."

Let's say you have one or both (should be same result) Lavabelly Slivers on the board and then you play a Woodland Changeling. How much damage does is dealt?

I count just 1 (from the changeling- nothing else).

At first glance I thought this was lovely jank, but this is actually kinda crazy with all the lords and anthems. It's like slivers without the slivers (and it's actually the Gemhide Sliver you have that made me realize that lol). It would definitely be fun to pilot, and it's pretty fair to boot so no complaining when you win. ;^)

One thing I would recommend is adding in a lot more ramp through rocks. Your lands are good, but you really need to be able accelerate your mana in order to be able to consistently put your lads out on the field. Perhaps you could take out some of your more innocuous changelings like Impostor of the Sixth Pride, Universal Automaton, and Woodland Changeling in favor of more mana rocks, because realistically you probably don't want to be drawing a basic changeling that doesn't do much on its own. You'd probably much rather draw something like a Sol Ring, or even a Fellwar Stone since you're running 5 colors anyway (you would still need more than just these 2). You'll also probably want more stack interaction through counterspells or cards like Veil of Summer just to make sure your important spells and your commander actually make it onto the field. You might get one game where people underestimate the value you can get out of your commander, but after that people probably aren't going to let you play him without some resistance.

Also, allow me to introduce something potentially degenerate yet fair into this deck that might make it pretty fun if you can build around it. Haakon, Stromgald Scourge, if you were to somehow work out a way of consistently finding him, discarding him, and then protecting him, could make this deck very silly lol. Haakon, Stromgald Scourge + Nameless Inversion itself is a pretty good combo, but imagine recurring everything in your deck constantly with a bunch of ETB lol triggers going off every time you do it. If you could streamline that and protect your important combo pieces people wouldn't know if they should hate you because of the unfair value you're getting, or love you because of the nonsense you've managed to pull off. JUST an idea.

I really do love this deck. I had never considered changelings with Reaper King, I don't know why. You've inspired me. :^)

I really dig the Changeling Dragon theme. I've seen this deck, it was fun to watch, and it's neat to see the insides. Do your 1 and 2-drop changelings make a difference? How well have the planeswalkers worked out?

Cards to consider removing (5): Champion of Dusk, Cloudshredder Sliver, Lovisa Coldeyes, Thundercloud Shaman, Merrow Commerce,

Cards to consider (14): Kindred Dominance, Heirloom Blade, Omnath, Locus of Rage, Blood Tribute, Forerunner of the Legion, Metallic Mimic, Dregscape Sliver, Harmonic Sliver, Necrotic Sliver, and Kindred Discovery. Also with over 40 creatures having more effects that trigger with creatures entering the battle field seem useful: Aura Shards, Cathars' Crusade, Guardian Project, Soul of the Harvest, and Chulane, Teller of Tales.

I don't personally like creatures that reduce costs. I'd rather play a mana dork, or rock. How often do you empty your hand? Would wheel spells be useful? I personally like Lifecrafter's Bestiary. You currently have 16 shapeshifters (w/o Crib Swap, Shields of Velis Vel). I don't know how much you want to play with that number, but I wonder how good some of the cards are (Changeling Outcast, Fire-Belly Changeling, Impostor of the Sixth Pride, Mothdust Changeling, Woodland Changeling).

I would personally recommend some green changelings, like Chameleon Colossus , Changeling Titan , Game-Trail Changeling , Universal Automaton , Webweaver Changeling , and Woodland Changeling , since they count as changelings.
