Wandering Tombshell

Creature — Zombie Turtle

You may want to remove some of the creatures in favor of direct control spells. After all you can't force your opponent to block you in mono black and some threats on board need to be dealt with. The spell Hero's Downfall is a great card you are using and could use more copies or spells similar in nature (example: Go for the Throat or Murder).

An example of cards you could do without would be Wandering Tombshell. The creature is defensive in nature yes, but most people dislike attacking into you because most of your creatures having deathtouch. The card becomes somewhat of a dead draw and you are left wishing you drew a different card more often then not. You may want to go through the cards in your deck that when you play them invoke a similar feeling and think of what you can replace them with.

A creature you may find some fun playing would be Gonti, Lord of Luxury. This creature not only has deathtouch, but allows you to play a random card from the top of your opponents deck. This can be particularly useful when playing vs an opponent that focuses around individual cards as you can sometimes steal them and deny them access to the card. It is also useful to note that a card stolen from Gonti's ability can be played as long as it is exiled from his ability, even if Gonti is no longer on the battlefield.

Feel free to ask questions if you have any

Set Adrift and Nevermaker are a bit less mana intensive, and there are a couple things in this deck that don't belong, like Wandering Tombshell

If you can find an esper commander, Unexpectedly Absent, AEthertow, Azorius Charm and Roil Spout seem to be much better cards. White seems to do this better, imo.

Cool deck, I like it. I actually built a turtle TURTLES! myself, I splashed black in it for the Wandering Tombshell and have Accorder's Shield to help with pumping them up and keeping them ready for defense. The mayboard is just for listing other cards related to turtles and tortoises.

I've always wanted to make some simple 40-card beginner decks to teach people how to play, and with the combination of me moving to a new school district and my girlfriend saying she is willing to learn, I have finally built them. I would like your opinions on them, and if they seem easy enough for a newer player to understand. (As a note, I tried to include a wide cast of keywords to emphasize the diversity of the game.)

Each deck has 17 lands and one rare, which the deck is themed around

To be honest I didn't really like the flavor for either option. The khan art was wonderful, you don't see Turkish armor often these days but the clans and characters had nothing I could relate to in a story sense. The reasons had even less for me than the khans in both flavor and play. It was like removing the wedge cut out the only part of each clan that was relatable for me. As for the leadership, the khans each had their own style of clan but none of them interested me. The dragons on the other hand are all sick on the same setting:tyrant... I think the only thing I really liked it off the whole set was the bolster ability and flavor in Wandering Tombshell
