Quintorius, Field Historian Discussion

@Arcaneful: Thanks for your comment, but Quintorius, Field Historian isn't a high powered commander... Unfortunately he has none of the character traits that make him a high powered commander, except that he is a cool looking elephant :D He "just" creates some tokens without evasion and he has only half an anthem effect in Boros/Lorehold-colors. Hofri Ghostforge is just the better choice here, because of the better stats, the better anthem effect, he can double up etb/ltb triggers and he can also turn non Spirits into Spirits. I'm sure you can build a high powered deck with Quintorius, but not because of him. We judge here the potential of the commanders on it's own and together with some possible synergies but sadly Quintorius doesn't generate enough card advantage to be a high powered general.

I think I agree with most of the Strixhaven commander ratings. I will say however I'm hoping I can get Quintorius, Field Historian to be a tier 3 deck soon. I've been testing him and while a little clunky, he can do some fun things with cards like Alms and Terror of the Peaks , etc.. I'm thinking maybe if I add some Kiki combos I can get him to be TIER 3, but we shall see.

I'm brewing around Quintorius, Field Historian (An old elephant learns new tricks) because I really like triggers like that - I already have a Tormod, the Desecrator list and I've never built a Boros deck before. But otherwise none of the legendaries really interest me very much.

I am very excited about the Mystical Vault cards or whatever. I love the art style and there's a lot of great cards I hope will be very affordable as a result for at least a brief period of time!

In which Rowan and Will have a row outside the Bow. We get to meet Quintorius, Field Historian and a couple of Rowan's Witherbloom friends. We get the Professor's Warning that there is impending danger from the Oriq so Rowan and Will each set to preparing in their own Practical Research . Finally we get the Test of Talents where we get to see Lukka and Kasmina in action before he forces her to flee the plane. The doors are open for Extus's attack on the school.

I believe this story covered a period of somewhere between one and two months.

Thanks! I updated it to Quintorius, Field Historian . Once everything loads into the database I was thinking of adding Lorehold Excavations at least, but I'm excited to see everything else. I also added Remorseful Cleric , works great with the spirit-tribal aspect of the deck and could be nice in a pinch, but it will only ever give 1 spirit token no matter how many cards I exile since Quintorius says 1 or more.

Honestly, I like it. It takes the (IMO) stale graveyard/reanimator archetype in a new drection, in colors that not only needed it, but have a surprising amount of things already that use the graveyard for something (like Alms , or Flashback , or Retrace ...).

In addition, the flavor really feels on point, though that might be a general Strixhaven thing. Quintorius, Field Historian is the first Boros commander that i've been excited to play since I started, and that's partly because of the flavor text on both him and Stonebound Mentor, but also see above.

Also, Sultai_Sir, I personally think that Velomachus Lorehold is pretty good as is, mainly because I don't really want a Boros Narset. Red should have a bit of risk in it, and without Blue in there to hold it back, Velomachus feels right in a way I can't explain.

I love Rip Apart and Quintorius, Field Historian . This is the direction I like to see WotC taking Boros.
