Tapped out says that this deck is illegal in modern. The only modern illegal card is in the sideboard. Also most of the sideboard is if you want to splash white
Changes + FNM results
BlueEyes, 9 years ago
First the results, 3-1, lots of people decided to play humans along u/r control goggles.
Match 1: Goggles 2-0
Was very surprised to see how quickly I was able to knock down his life total. Game 2 was definitely longer, but his thing in ice wasn't long for this world with big wolves and Rending Volley
Match 2: Mono white humans 2-1
Won game 1 being on play, was able to match the decks speed, but having trample overpowered it.
Game 2 I got my butt handed to me a silver platter with Archangel of Tithes+Always Watching
Game 3 Was actually a blow out in my favor, Village Messenger Flip turn 1, his Dragon Hunter on his, my turn two nothing beside land for anticipation of Thalia's Lieutenant, flipped on upkeep...he then played Thalia's Lieutenant in which i responded to trigger a Dual Shot taking care of both creatures.
Match 3: Bant Company 1-2
Lost against bant company, but the matches were fairly close except the last one with a mulligan to 4 into land flood.
Match 4: Grixis Control 2-0
Kind of same thing as prior, he tried grasping my Lambholt Butcher on swing, but a flash Howling Resurgence with not being countered was enough for a clock after that measly 1 damage making it through.
Changes!!!!!!!!
Adding in evelutionary leap to respond better against removal and gaining a little more card cycling. Mainboarding Dual Shot now, Dual Shot + Silverfur Partisan actually helped close out a few games.
Any suggestions, go for it!
Thanks!!!

The foils are just for fun. You don't need to get the lands as expeditions

Defense of the Heart never impressed me. When I was behind, most of the time it didn't stop my opponent and if I was ahead it was a dead draw. Also still don't like the Birthing Pod here. Titania is an other creature, that can generate a big army with the right land, but also is a five drop for pod.

Comment cleanup and Reset for new Standard.

- completely removed Viscera Dragger I think this creature fit for aggro better... can win a few games... was 2nd thing after mongrel, what I think was the 2nd worse at the previous deck. and also removed 1x Commune with the Gods to make a room for 3xTortured Existence.

Martin_eagle, 9 years ago
Added cards that fit the control theme better. Feel like there's too many reanimate spells as well. Deck couldn't fetch Contamination lock very well.

in +2x Phyrexian Rager oh gosh i love draws u can chose to draw a card or even dredge a card. And why not Read the bones? Well u may mill it and Existence will still bring that in!
-
out -2x Viscera Dragger well 3/3 for 4 isnt that bad and cycle for 2 is okay. But with wayfinder my grave is huge anyway, my wincon is Anglers or Scavanger, so 3 dmg unearth isnt gamechanging and 3/3 without evasion doesn´t change much.

- out 4x Wild Mongrel
- in 4x Satyr Wayfinder

Sideboard Help
ldjulius, 9 years ago
*Update* I could use some help working on the sideboard. Right now there isn't much room in the budget for big name cards, but we could cut one of the current sideboard cards to make room for something else.

Resurrecting this deck
ManaTitheGuy, 9 years ago
With the banning of twin and ugin, there has been a wonderful uprising of aggro. So I thought I'd rebuild this bad mamma-jamma. Any thoughts on what would bring it up to speed would be great.
Tournament report & deck update
Spotred, 9 years ago
I went to a tournament last weekend 2-2-1, and I decided to write a report mostly for my own sake. I didn't expect much, this being my my fourth event ever and all, but I learned a lot from the experience.
When it comes to changes to the list I've decided to do some more defining changes, moving the two copies of Negate and the single Engineered Explosives from the side to the main. This frees up valuable sideboard space, allowing me to include three new bullets in the fifteen - for now, Surgical Extraction & Baneslayer Angel.
Also, I have one spot in the deck which I can't make up my mind about. Currently I'm testing Runed Halo in the main making room for Jace, Architect of Thought in the side. Another thing is that there have been cases where I can't cast Painful Truths because I don't have black mana available, and I'm debating testing Sphinx's Revelation again.

Tweaking

Main deck:
-3 Indulgent Arsitocrat, too slow and no synergy anymore
-2 Call the Bloodline, too slow
-1 Westvale Abbey Flip, no synergy anymore
-1 Swamp, mana base shaving
+3 Insolent Neonate, faster and better in the lategame
+2 Sinister Concoction, solid removal, enables madness and keeps opponent from playing big stuff. At least make him think twice.
+2 Mountain, mana base shaving. Most early cards are red as well as my removal. So early acces to red mana is crucial.
Sideboard:
-2 Act of Treason, no synergy anymore
-2 Sinister Concoction, went to mainboard
-1 Indulgent Aristocrat, no synergy anymore
-1 Dead Weight, maybe 1 too much
+2 Radiant Flames, to counter human and elf tribal decks.
+2 Virulent Plague, counters Secure the waste and Westvale Abbey Flip
+2 Ultimate Price, solid removal, this might become 2 Self-Inflicted Wound

1st Friday Night Magic

First showing at a Standard FNM. The majority of the venue wanted to play Modern, but there were around 6 of us who played a separate Standard Event. The 1st Match was against a Gitrog and Tireless Tracker deck. The combo soon got out of hand and it didn't help that I was initially drawing no lands and then getting land flooded. Lost this one. 2nd Match was against a quickly built vampire/burn deck. Was built half an hour before the event started. Only threat was a Chandra Flamecaller who wiped my board. After some misplays, however, I was able to regain the game and win. 3rd and final match was against white/black control. Firemantle Mage came into its own, providing menace for all my creatures every turn, including a 5/5 Gideon. Won this match. Overall, pleased with this decks performance.
Swapping Around Stuff From Highlander and Cube
villon, 9 years ago
Basically I'm adding in Jace, the Mind Sculptor, Scroll Rack, Defense of the Heart and more land/artifact based ramp and cutting the mana dorks + some of the creatures that aren't quite as good in EDH (Thundermaw Hellkite and such)
I also cut Frost Titan for Tamiyo, the Moon Sage since they're very similar - but Tamiyo also draws you cards. I like good ol Frosty, but I love Tamiyo.

Finally got to give the deck a good run about. It wants to be very defensive and non-threatening, until you can't lose. Takes a moment to get going though.
After some notes from other (more long-term) players and some independent study, I've made the following changes:

I'm now a Dirty Combo Player
lang901, 9 years ago
This deck is in the prep stages for becoming a Primal Surge "Combo" deck.
Revamp
RoarMaster, 9 years ago
Lowered the overall costs, switched out the kithkin in favour of human synergies. Dropped land count.
Now With Recursion!
Kittenasaurus, 9 years ago
Two cards added to pull stuff from the graveyard. More card draw, more removal! 11 cards switched out.
Unblockable Shenanigans
Sirplop, 9 years ago
Replaced some stuff - hope it works a little better.
- Renowned Weaponsmith for Trespassing Souleater: The deck doesn't have too much of an issue with mana, and having something so cheap and unblockable is a bigger bonus.
- Shrine of Loyal Legions with Trailblazer's Boots: The Shrine has never been a must, so I've finally replaced it with something more equipment-y.
- Vial of Dragonfire with Fleetfeather Sandals: Much like the Shrine, the Vial was never really meant to stick around.
- Readded the Auriok Edgewright and took out the fourth Kor Duelist, because variety is the spice of life.
