Swapped out Harmonize for Xenograft, Figured I already had a good amount of draw power as it is, and I couldn't figure out what else to cut.

BNG Official Update

Epicbatman, 11 years ago

Playing at the PTQ taught me one thing. Xenagos, God of Revels is bad in my deck. Really bad. I can't tell you how many times he was in his planes walker form. That's why I decided Vraska the Unseen is a perfect fit. She's basically a 2-for-1 on legs, and if not anything, else, another copy of Dreadbore. Also, I was light in the threat department, so another Stormbreath Dragon sounds good. I was also thinking about how many times I wanted a rakdos key rune or a Read the Bones to be a Thoughtseize. I mean, why not play it, it's just good. I think this is another change for the better.

PTQ Report

Epicbatman, 11 years ago

I took this deck to the Boston PTQ. Sadly the event was canceled, but not before I went an uninspireing 2-3. Round 1: Esper Blue Devotion Control. The deck would be the one I least expected to play, or exist. I thought it was a control deck, until the first Nightveil Specter. I forget how I sideboarded, but it wasn't enough for double master of waves in game 2. 0-2. Round 2: A more traditional Esper Control. Winning game one in a terrible matchup pre board was a rush, all thanks to a timely Rakdos's Return. Games 2 and 3 didn't go a s well, despite boarding in 2 Sire Of Insanity, I din't see one all match. 1-2. Round 3: Regular everyday Mono-Black Devotion, a bad matchup for me, Reaper of the Wilds got me through game 2, but he had Thoughtseize every game, basically the best card against me. 1-2. Round 4: Becoming increasingly depressed, I was happy to learn round 4 was the best matchup possible for me, Mono-Red Devotion. A quick dispatch via Anger of the Gods and Polukranos, World Eater, this was a breeze. 2-0. Round 5: Selesnya Aggro, another prime matchup, was a little bit harder, but nonetheless pretty enjoyable. A monstrused Fleecemane Lion was enough game 1. but games 2 and 3 were locked up. 2-1. After that round, the event was cancelled due to the governor of Boston closing roads. I got my $25 back, and a near car accident on the way home sealed the deal on a thoroughly mediocre experience. I'll do better next time.

scry

Figured that i need a lot more consistency by using scry in this deck. Unfortunately there isnt a blue/red temple but ill playtest full sets of Magma Jet and Dissolve

Took out a lot of the infinite combos

Woopertrooper, 11 years ago

After playing with the deck for a while, as expected, people didn't really find playing against deck that could go infinite at any time with only 2 or 3 cards very fun. So I decided to take them out for casual play, which is what I do for most of the time. This meant taking out things like Zealous Conscripts, Breath of Fury, Thornbite Staff, and Lightning Crafter. I decided to replace these cards with Purphoros, God of the Forge, Deathrender, Dragonmaster Outcast, and Phyrexian Altar. I think these cards will make the deck a lot more fun to play with, and Deathrender is just great after people boardwipe :D

BNG Pre-release, 3-1, went 2-0, 2-0, 1-2, 2-0 with the new version, need something to deal with mono blue, master of waves sucks.

After Deathrite Shaman Banning

That pretty much inspired me to gather the list i have now. Was looking at what adjustments were to be made for the loss of the one drop elf, and it led me to a nice focused list.

Knight of the Reliquary happened to be in my trade binder. After looking at that card, i knew we needed another in this deck. A shop owner at my LGS recommended Bojuka Bog and Sejiri Steppe as synergistic utility. My primary thought it was going to be great for fetching Gavony Township, so it affords me the opportunity to run singles of any utility land i wish to run.

Birds of Paradise i favor over other mana dorks for the ability to create black mana, for turn 2 Liliana of the Veil as well as to enable casting Phyrexian Obliterator. (thank goodness, as my second option skyrocketed in price and i only own one Noble Heirarch.

Since i moved more and more away from Golgari and went all-in on being Junk, i found decisions being based on that fact.

Wilt-Leaf Liege was first considered for a sideboard card, but it moved to the main. The primary reason for this decision was to bring it in against other hand disruption decks made no sense. Since i am running a playset of Lingering Souls, other players will likely board out Lily as i am attempting to board in the Liege. The other reason was so many of my creatures benefit from it directly. The only exception being Obliterator.

In conjunction with this, i was helped by a friend who recommended i adjust my numbers of Scavenging Ooze down to 2 main and 1 in the side. He also recommended Fleecemane Lion as a replacement and it seems to be a fine enhancement.

It's taken quite of bit of trading and using store credit from winning to acquire this list. Just made the last acquisition of the second Aven Mindcensor last Friday after posting a winning record at a Standard FNM... But as of today i'm pretty sure i can sit in a pretty competitive spot with this list, after all i went 2-1 with it, last Thursday. Pretty satisfying...

Not sure what combination of Golgari Cluestone, Golgari Keyrune, Darksteel Ingot, and Astral Cornucopia to use. Anyone have any ideas on which are best in which situation?

Swapped out Lord of Atlantis for Inexorable Tide.

SereneTsunami, 11 years ago

i been thinking about this one, and it no longer resembles my friend's idea much. But at least it has cards that cost over 3 mana to play...

Garciaj113v2, 11 years ago

Due to playtesting I realized many things, and among those things, is my previous deck list was simply unable to deal with removal, because of this I moved several creatures to the sideboard and added several protection and counter spells to deal with it. The sideboard is to deal with the aggro decks that appear here and there, and offer my deck more rushdown against less removal based decks. Advice would be greatly appreciated and anything you can offer to help make this deck more viable is certainly welcome
