Valentine's Weekend Update

Dozing, 11 years ago

Wrecked at FNM 5-1 first place. Only loss was to mono-black who had double thoughtseize both games he won. Came back in top 2 and beat him. I also used this deck in a couples two-headed giant v-day tournament which was a bunch of fun. However I got wrecked at a tournament the next day by esper humans, and I lost other games to aggro because I lacked burn. I took out two fanatics of xenagos and put in two more mizzium mortars to compensate.

Switched two cards

Took out Archetype of Finality; deathtouch removal is redundant since I have regenerate. Replaced one Necrotic ooze with a Spike Cannibal, and added Master Biomancer. Have not yet decided on Renegade Krasis... should I replace Jarad?

-4 Plains +2 Forest -3 Ghostblade Eidolon +1 Witchstalker +4 Unflinching Courage Took out the Ghostblades because they just aren't viable with their high bestow cost. I added another Witchstalker because hexproof is really helpful in this deck. And then I added four Unflinching Courages because it's a crazy good 3 drop enchantment that fits perfectly in this deck.

Updated Deck

Jairoe03, 11 years ago

I broke down and replaced my Dryad Militant with Experiment One, but mainly because I replaced Precinct Captain with Daring Skyjek which gave me more ways for Experiment to ascend beyond 2 power. I removed a Banisher Priest so I can run a 4th copy of Experiment One and moved it into the sideboard.

Removed Bow of Nylea and Spear of Heliod from Sideboard to make room for 3 Unflinching Couragefoil. Also took out 3 cards to include 2x Revoke Existence and the 4th Banisher Priest.

PubertyPanda, 11 years ago

Took pithing needle out of sideboard, decreased ratchet bomb down to 1, and put hands of binding in sideboard, along with hybridization and negates.

Gorky, 11 years ago

Removed Revoke Existence, added Martyr of Sands.

3-1 FNM

sk00kes, 11 years ago

So the newer version of this deck is great. Having run the deck during Theros it was super fun to play, but would get on the back foot quite a bit, even though it toted a winning record at FNM's. With the new cards it applies pressure quickly, and when draws go well against the right match-up has opponents scooping turn 5.

First 2 matchups were against a BRW Mid-range and RW Devotion. Just obliterated them.

Next matchup was against Gruul Midrange, matchup usually goes down to who get's their Paloukranos, Eater of Worlds monstrous'd first. Won in 3.

Final matchup i lost in 2 to Bant Control. First game i got mana-screwed drawing every island and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx before being able to play something turn 5. Next match i did not have a very good sideboard plan, and lost.

From the games and from consultation with a respected opponent, i made some changes to the deck. Increasing the number of Cyclonic Rift to 3, decreasing the number of Prophet of Kruphix to 2, moving to a full set of Arbor Colossus, and my idea of adding a pair of Rubblebelt Raiders. The idea is more of a focused threat using the ramp thru devotion. His recommendation of using Burning-Tree Emissary and eliminating the fluff like many of the aforementioned cards, (including Kiora, the Crashing Wavefoil) adds consistency for the early punch-out, but in my opinion lacks versatility if that strategy fails.

i foresee my running this deck for quite awhile.

STD 4 / 11

hexproof enchantments with lifegain, recluse, and vines to keep yourself going a little against aggro/flyers. Then its about protecting your hex dudes and getting some scrying / card draw, and evasion, pumping up the scouts and swinging for the kill. Sideboard in the dispels against control decks.

Comments have been cleared. Also i will be taking this deck to a standard FNM soon so you can see how it does there.

Scavenging Ooze Added

Atlashine, 11 years ago

After watching some recent Grand Prix, I found two awesome two drops that can make or break any given deck of their respective colors. These cards being Pack Rat and Scavenging Ooze. Of course this deck has no place for a Pack Rat, but adding a couple Scavenging Ooze in place of a Hammer of Purphoros and a Voyaging Satyr could supply a lot of power and utility. Their ability to counter anything targeting the graveyard at instant speed for the cost of only one green mana is amazing. Trying to use Whip of Erebos to bring back a creature? Gobble gobble gobble! Need a boost of damage to end game? Gobble gobble gobble! The possibilities are almost endless for this card!

Changed General

RamziJuve, 11 years ago

Phenax I felt worked a lot better as a general. He rarely became active, however he stuck around a lot more than Lazav did despite the hexproof. Giving my Walls tap to mill is awesome.

TheMillKid, 11 years ago

I have made this into more of a storming vengeance deck

Testing

Xavion13, 11 years ago

Ordered the last of the cards I needed to start actually testing this deck, though I do not have all the shock lands yet.
