The Nuclear Football

Commander / EDH RG (Gruul)

J311yPhi5h

I've been working on this deck for awhile now. It's mostly focused on using fatties and was using a lot of hydras but I slowly took some of the weaker hydras out. Now it's mostly focused on getting big creatures on the field and pumping them up. Xenagos essentially makes my creatures into burn spells if they don't last beyond my opponent's turn(s). I added some infect recently, mostly to throw opponent's off guard but also because of the excellent synergy between Xenagos, Hydra Omnivore, and Grafted Exoskeleton. There's also a number of lure cards to draw blockers away from my fatties. Through several games I've found that lure abilities essentially end the game right there with enough fatties on the field

I'm hoping this works out a bit better. I've ordered some cards and I've play tested it on tapped out and my mana seems to be running much better. Specifically, I removed some pointless spells like volcanic upheaval and replaced them with ramp. I added Malignus and Deus of Calamity and I threw in some duel lands and a couple utilities for ramp purposes. I took out Garruk, Primal Hunter and Omnath Locus of Rage because their focus on counters really didn't make sense for the deck and Omnath's mana cost was off the charts and kind of bogging down the speed of the deck. I've brought down the average CMC down to 3.5 which is nice and smooth and most of my hydras work off each other well enough that even if I invest low mana into them they can still snowball out of control.
