"What's to worry if a land hits the battlefield?" - "Well, I guess you should meet
Omnath, Locus of Rage
"
This is the very first deck I built. It started as I went through my newly acquired cards (mostly abandoned collections for a few bucks) and tried to find elementals for a casual tribal deck. When I was through the cards I had so many that I nearly could build an EDH deck, so I took Omnath and began Building it. The core of the deck is still the same but I refined it over the years bit by bit. It is not my playstyle because Gruul Brute Force is not my way to go but I still love the deck. It has good replayability since there are no real Tutors and you something different every game. It also is my go to for people who are new to MTG because it is very beginners friendly as it works straight forward. You play and search for lands, bring
Omnath, Locus of Rage
into play and run over everything in sight.
Still there are some things to keep in mind (With this you should know most of it):
-
The ramp in the deck tries to get the lands into play and not into the hand because you only have so few land drops per turn.
-
Feel free to add fetches of your choice. As for dual lands try not to have too many because of the basic land search of the ramp.
-
Probably the best turn 1 card is
Burgeoning
because it sets you up for an early
Omnath, Locus of Rage
.
-
Abundance
and
Heirloom Blade
are the semi tutors in the deck.
-
Try not to burn out all the ramp spells before
Omnath, Locus of Rage
shows up because you want to get as many elemental tokens as possible after they arrive.
-
Try to protect
Omnath, Locus of Rage
and best never attack or block with them because they are the engine of the deck.
-
Don't worry if
Omnath, Locus of Rage
gets countered, destroyed, exiled, froggified or whatever your opponents wish to do because he is a removal magnet. They can end the game right after they enter thbattlefield. My record is casting them 8 times in one game so far. (My overall record still is casting Tetsuko 19 times from the command zone in one game)
-
Warstorm Surge
is one of the strongest cards the deck has. Every time you play a land with
Omnath, Locus of Rage
in play you can deal damage to any creature or player.
-
Stalking Vengeance
is the other side of this effect. Keep in mind that
Omnath, Locus of Rage
also deals damage as elementals die.
-
Gratuitous Violence
doubles the damage your creatures deal.
-
Ball Lightning
and
Groundbreaker
can cause together with
Warstorm Surge
,
Stalking Vengeance
,
Omnath, Locus of Rage
and
Gratuitous Violence
42 damage each if you have one combat phase.
-
Breath of Fury
can give you a lot of Combat phases if you enchant one token and move it over to the next one until you have no creatures left. With all the damage you have dealt in combat and with the second ability of
Omnath, Locus of Rage
everybody else should be dead by the moment you enchant
Omnath, Locus of Rage
in the end.
-
Aggravated Assault
can give you multiple combat phases, too. Together with
Savage Ventmaw
you have infinite combat phases if the dragon survives.
-
Khalni Heart Expedition
is an enchantment I usually try to hold on with enough counters for
Omnath, Locus of Rage
to show up.
-
Collective Voyage
and
Boundless Realms
can be seen as the final explosion since they are enormous in the late game.
Collective Voyage
can also help in the beginning and maybe you can use political talk to get the others to pay mana, too.
-
Nissa, Worldwaker
does everything your Deck wants to. Especially the ultimate ability can straight up win the game. Yet you have to be carefull because you are light on flyers and everybody tries to kill
Nissa, Worldwaker
as fast as possible. I never had the chance to resolve her because I never drew her or the board was swarming with flyers.
-
There is protection and removal against flyers of which
Sandwurm Convergence
is the strongest.
-
Vigor
protects your creatures, so keep them save.
-
Verdant Sun's Avatar
and
Shamanic Revelation
can make blocking redundant.
-
Sylvan Awakening
and
Rude Awakening
can win you the game out of nothing.
-
Song of Freyalise
can give you the needed preparation for the final strike.
-
Cosmotronic Wave
says you kill everybody so maybe keep that up for the moment you can.
-
Shamanic Revelation
and
Elemental Bond
are great to refill your hand.
-
Since there are only that many lands in the deck you want to get some of the lands back into your hand.
Slab Hammer
,
Mina and Denn, Wildborn
and
Multani, Yavimaya's Avatar
help you with that.
-
Rubblehulk
is not only a strong creature but also a powerful combat trick.
-
Verdant Confluence
and
Reap the Past
is the recursion in the deck that can reproduce turns from before.
-
I probably should get
Cloudstone Curio
in the deck at some point because you could save your nontoken creatures and also get lands back into your hand.
