“The human body—like any other machine—can be stripped for parts.” —Ashnod

Ashnod is a uniquely interesting commander with a surprisingly wide array of ways that she can be built. Despite this, her core identity revolves around early game sacrifices to generate the powerstones she needs to bring death and pain to her enemies.

"Ashnod found few willing to trade their humanity for the power she offered them."

Early game, Ashnod needs bodies to get the powerstone generation going. This deck has no ramp to speak of, so having adequate bodies to be made into powerstones is vital. While any body will do, the deck primarily relies on cheap creatures that either draw us cards upon their demise or create tokens for further exploitation.

“When metal instruments are scarce, a saw constructed from the subject’s femur will suffice for a craniectomy.” —Ashnod, research notes

Once a few powerstones are online, the game has usually progressed to a point that Ashnod will need ways to rise the pain while also evading blockers. The answer is to use the powerstones to drop various swords to pump her power as well as give her protection from various colors and combat damage effects.

“There’s a certain beauty in destruction. Some will consider this war a masterpiece.” —Ashnod

By game's end, Ashnod has typically died or else become not powerful enough to close the game out. When this happens, the powerstones she has accumulated can serve to power out devastating artifact creatures which we can further augment with equipment to devastate out enemies. Alternatively, if we have need of additional bodies, Ashnod can raise her sacrifical guinea pigs to create transmogrant zombies to raise an army to either defend or raise the pressure on out opponents.
