Kaldheim update
RijtBart, 4 years ago
Added Cosima, God of the Voyage Flip in favor of Thrasios, Triton Hero. Turns out the are only a few times I have 4 mana to spare for his awesome ability. Cosima is another way to draw cards in this deck. I took Urban Evolution out. because the deck has enough card draw. Instead I added Maja, Bretagard Protector to strengthen the token theme of the deck. Finally I added some snow basics. This addition may trigger my Field of the Dead more easily.
I am still doubting to put any of the snow duals or spell lands from kaldheim in the deck....

Removing a bad card

Removed: Overwhelming Intellect because leaving up 6 mana to maybe counter a big creature spell is a bad use of time and mana.

Gold done
AjMcGamer, 4 years ago
Just thought I'd give an update after the last bit of testing I've done.
I had made it through the silver ranks with the previous version, but after making the adjustments to the landbase and adding the set of Doomskar I was able to get through gold today.
Some of the main notes I have are for the opening hand. The safest and most consistent hands contain at least 1-2 white sources, a Banishing Light and/or a Doomskar, along with a Sanctum of Fruitful Harvest, Sanctum of Calm Waters and/or Fae of Wishes.
Sanctum of Stone Fangs is the next shrine priority for the most part, followed by Sanctum of Shattered Heights and Sanctum of Tranquil Light.
Dont be afraid to go into the qishboard for things like Nine Lives or Ugin, the Spirit Dragon if need be. Dance of the Manse is an unsung hero in this deck, it doesn't get used every game, but every game used it has impact.
Searching for Greatness can be very useful if getting kind of land screwed since as long as you can get out Sanctum of Tranquil Light you can cheat out the rest of the shrines from your hand if necessary.
Midnight Clock hasn't needed to be used yet and I wonder if it would be too slow to beat mill if it was needed, are there any other cards that allow you to shuffle the yard back into your library?
Well thats about all I have right now, will be tackling platinum tomorrow.

Shocking news!

I have enjoyed Lightning Bolt so much, it is a red deck, that I added in Shock to help the burn count. To do so I dropped the otherworldy outburst to the sideboard. The idea was to help against removal using otherworldy outburst but I found I was never really thrilled to see it. But I was always happy to see more burn.

New and improved Simic deck with landfall. Play all the lands with landfall triggers, I.e mill everyone's library with ruin crab, draw my own library and win with lab man or jace. Also capable of smashing face with big leviathans, octopuses, serpents, yadayada

Smothering Tithe -> Hullbreacher Elesh Norn -> Agent of Treachery Linvala -> Keeper of the Accord Leonin Relic-Warder -> Skyclave Apparition Eidolon of Rhetoric -> Archon of Emeria Ghostly Flicker -> Brought Back Hullbreacher is an upgrade for Smothering Tithe. Not only do they not the get the draw, I get the treasure regardless. Hard hate for explosive draw is appreciated, even if I have to give up taxes on the normal draw step. Switching Norn over to Agent is a haymaker test. I want to see if there is enough oomph in stealing a permanent or two without repeated flickers compared to making my meager creatures more buff. Linvala was a fine creature. Keeper synergizes with Ephara more by possibly making creatures (which become draws) off turn while also helping to somewhat keep up with ramp decks. Skyclave is more permanent removal that Relic-Warder. Archon does more for the same cost than Eidolon. Brought Back is a test to see if responsiveness to removal/"grave flicking" is a better option since it can hit many more cardtypes than the traditional Ghostly Flicker. The 'double crack fetch -> Brought Back both fetches' line is the main point here along with removal recovery. 2.83 -> 2.81

Jaya Ballard, Task Mage -> Birgi Seasoned Pyromancer -> Toralf Snow Mountain -> War Room Jaya has been a beloved fun-of in the list, but finally is showing her age. Having to wait a turn for anything she does is a problem in addition to needing cards to do them. Squee is meant to help the second part, but he can be stretched thin with other things. Pyromancer never felt great either. Birgi's flipside will provide a free Impulse-draw 2 each turn with Squee, so that is a nice addition. Toralf will give the deck some nice reach by keeping excess damage from sweepers from going to waste. Works well with Repercussion as well by creating additional damage sources. War Room is some more (admittedly slow) draw for the deck, but it comes stapled to a land. 3.66 -> 3.68

Tomik -> Falthis, Shadowcat Familiar Vampire Nighthawk -> Nighthawk Scavenger Glint-sleeve Siphoner -> Archon of Emeria Brimaz will become Reidane when I get a copy Adding Falthis as a partner adds some more Menace and Deathtouch as easily accessible keywords. Makes Tymna or Falthis more likely to get through on their own, while also going a long way with Odric. Nighthawk is pretty much an upgrade. Anyone playing fetches and ramp will make him 3/3 and all the keywords are the same. Siphoner was too slow of a draw engine. Archon gives me more disruption that I am not greatly effected by. Brimaz has been been rolling around the deck for a long time and has never really been impressive. Reidane lowers my color concentration while adding more disruptive elements. 2.77 -> 2.82

Dropped Terminus to try out Doomskar. Potentially removing Spell Snare to try Saw It Coming, partially for giggles and partially since Snare can be a dead card depending on matchup.

In: Painter's Servant, Kamahl, Heart of Krosa, Yeva, Nature's Herald, Seedborn Muse, Masked VandalOut: Primeval Bounty, Kamahl, Fist of Krosa , Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger , Winter Orb , Choke
Painter's Servant and Lifeforce out and a bunch of mana, I can counter anything I find scary, especially with lots of druids and Yeva, Nature's Herald out, then can just pass turn and fash creatures in in responce to produce more mana, I'm taking Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger out because its attrachs such a massive amount of hate and it so easy to remove. maybe I'll put Caged Sun back in at some pont if I feel I need more mana, the new Kamahl is slightly better than the old one with the fact that his effect is free. I know the old one can pump more than once, but that is usually overkill and i'm using my creatures for mana so its less effective. putting Seedborn Muse back in and taking out my stax pieces, need them in a future deck. the new Masked Vandal from Kaldheim is really nice. it's almost like a second Reclamation Sage, except you need to exile a creature from your grave yard and its a druid as it is a shapeshifter so that's just a win win.

The Birth of Meletis
TheoryCrafter, 4 years ago
The Birth of Meletis will not only grant some ramp and fuel for Pious Wayfarer, but create some blockers. Also, the extra life doesn't hurt. Because of the search for Plains and the drop of the the mana curve due to the inclusion I removed 5 Plains from the deck. Whether I put them back in after The Birth of Meletis rotates out will depend on the cards that come out before Innistrad: Werewolves.
Proxy replacement
The_Munchkin, 4 years ago
I have finally gotten around to updating my deck with proxies of cards that are currently in other decks. Proxies are a great way to play magic on a budget and I encourage it as long as your group is okay with it. I enjoy the collectable aspect of mtg so I will continue to get the actual cards for that, but I wont ever buy more than 1. That being said, id be happy to play against all proxy decks, regardless if you own the actual cards or not, so long as the power levels are fairly well matched.

Abandon aggro all ye who enter here

Having a bunch of cheap, somewhat worthless zombies wasn't very fun. Now we're back, trying a more good-stuffy approach where every card is an alright top deck, even when we're behind. The end result is more midrange-y, with many ways to swing the battlefield back to our advantage with mass-reanimation.
